Arf?Fe?Za? Seriously, wtf!
I know right? Then you throw out "cunthole" for triple word score and everyone freaks!

JONG = no points....motherfucker!
You have to learn the 2 letter words to be any good at Scrabble/Words. It sucks that most 2 point words are never used in the modern vernacular. In the old days if you couldn't define it you couldn't play it the way we played. My dad whom prides himself in having a large lexicon hates Scrabble because of the arcane 2 letter words allowed & I really don't blame him. There are 2 letter word lists on the web that you can print out . Also some money 3 letter words- RAJ-SUQ-ZOA-QAT

When I was playing a lot I read the scrabble dictionary regularly. 2 and 3 letter words are money. Without them, you will rarely win a game, and probably never win a game against a good player.
Just wait until someone hits you with a triple letter/double word score for "qis"
I was looking at a list of allowed two-letter words just the other day, there's about 100 of them and they are wack. I like the rule that you have to be able to define it, otherwise I have no chance against a good player.

Is "Za" actually acceptable in scrabble? I know words w/friends takes it, but I always considered it slang and therefore not acceptable in scrabble.
Learning the names of greek letters (pi, xi, mu, etc.) and musical notes (do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti) is a good start.

Here's the part that bugs me:
No Definition of 'za' Found - It's still good as a Scrabble word though!
mm is also acceptable, as well as hm
za (zä)
n. Slang
Pizza.Slang is acceptable IF it is in the dictionary that you are using when you agree on what dictionary you are using in the game you are playing. If you're playing a serious game, with challenges, then you should be using a dictionary that you are familiar with.'Any words found in a standard dictionary are permitted except those capitalized, those designated as foreign words, abbreviations, and words requiring apostrophes or hyphens.'
In our family we used 3 dictionaries. As long as it was in one of those 3 it was good.
That shit pisses me off too, lots of two letter "words" that I find hard to justify.
Za is especially irksome for some reason, because I know people who actually say it and it sounds idiotic. "Hey lets go grab some za, brah"! Do you want to go get something to eat or are you suffering from tourettes?
"...no hobby should either seek or need rational justification. To find reasons why it is useful or beneficial converts it at once from an avocation into an industry, lowers it at once to the ignominious category of an exercise undertaken for health, power or profit."

[QUOTE=stfu&gbtw;3864907]Way to misuse the word "lexicon" while trying to sound smart about scrabble.
Please explain the misuse of the word lexicon in my post. I searched it to see if I was wrong and this is what I came up with

"Lexicon" is the word stock of a language. "Vocabulary" is the word stock of the speaker. You're dad has a large vocabulary, knowing the meaning of many of the words of the lexicon.
Btw: It's "my dad, who", not "my dad whom".
Don't try so hard.
I've always considered slang to be unacceptable. Totally agree that it's at the discretion of the players in a "friendly" game, although I would hope a "good" dictionary would not include (non-)words such as za. I found the official tournament word list here and it sadly includes za.![]()
The TWL also includes zzz, which is only possible if you used both blanks.
Edit: Okay, za apparently was added in 2005 (source) and people were unhappy about it then.
