my point is that there are 2 types of turns.

Defensive - push tails right to not go right
Offensive - steer(or tip and steer) right to go right

chuck martin is a defensive skier, the guys in the technical mogul video are controlling speed though turn shape and not though skidding. they are skiing offensively. Chuck is controlling speed though skidding.

Basically what i am saying is great all mountain skiers turn to change direction and though that change of direction they can slow down or speed up at will. Being a good skidded though helps keep the flow of slow line fast skiing up.

BTW I am actually agreeing that inside ski lift is not a bad thing. A bunch of people on here think it the act of pussies and lesser skiers.

I only lift my ski to pee
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

"Chuck Martin is a defensive skier"......yeah defensive skiing wins a lot of pro mogul competitions.
You obviously have never taken a physics course. Until the force vector of the turn has an uphill component, you aren't slowing down at all. You're just butthurt that Chuck skis ten times better than yourself. Don't be so hard on yourself. You just need to work on quickness.....that's why you are always missing turns and moving laterally through the fall line. I have the same problem. I think it starts from not enough knee angulation.
Take what you are doing and double the turn count and it will come together. Good luck.

where am I missing turns at? please reference a video from 2012.....

chuck martin is defensive per the definition I layed out, a definition I took directly from Bob Barnes. the guy in mogul video I posted and Glen Plake skiing on DH boards is offensive skiing. Chuck is controlling sped though skidding and edge setting, the guys in the mogul video are doing via turn shape.

You make a huge traverse after you lean into a turn getting stuck and your moguls are so small they require little range of motion..........and Glen's skiing, Moseley, and the rest of the boys look more like Chuck Martin with large range of motion and quickness. Your skiing has little resemblance to any of them......but hey.....these are world class mogul skiers........but you're doing fine.......just don't be insane by calling a world class mogul skier "defensive"

And just because a ski is skinny it is not a "bump" ski......jesus.

I said bump skis are skinny, not all skinny skis are bumps skis. there is again a difference. Yo like putting shit in my mouth eh? I am making traverses in the video with a yellow jacket because of BARE patches. Let see some video of you crushing it ok?

The most notable feature of epic ski is an obsession with how OTHER people ski, what gear they ski on, where they ski, how they behave, etc, etc, etc. It's what makes epic ski so much fun to read. It's not so much fun to read it here.

I actually tried to keep my skiing out of this, but since someone's arguement wasnt strong enough my own skiing got brought into.

well reading this thread was 7 minutes of my life i'll never get back. in other news, let's post as many crappy youtube videos about skiing as we can! ready. go.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

I'm 62 and what I can tell you is that your legs are in the best shape they'll ever be in. Even WATCHING mogul videos is hazardous.

quote honestly M.T.skull I would love to see video of you skiing some bumps. or anything for the matter.
Hey shit for brains, you've already proven you're un-coachable, what do either of us stand to gain by me posting video of myself or anyone else doing it right?
Keep beating off to videos of gate-bashers as some sort of proof that everyone else is doing it wrong, and I'll continue just going skiing, and being way better than you!

first who cares who is skiinny on skinny skis? noone on this site does anymore. He is heel pushing and then there is only a bottom part of his turn and skiing defensive line.

by defensive I mean he is turning to slow down and not turning to change direction. turning to change direction is offensive and what anyone should strive for. With that said I have gotten into shitting matches with so many people over what offensive and defensive skiing is. I couldnt ski that way, but honestly I prefer not to. its defensive skiing that really doesnt work in many conditions. Put him a crud field and watch him catch his edges as he pushes his tails out on every freaking turn.....or he will ski an round offensive turn and do well.

The problem with these thread is so many people do not even know what good skiing or what their goals are, and to be honest the chuck martin videos and technique has some take away but to want to do every turn like that even in the bumps would be miss guided. He is skiing specialized equipment narrow skis/short poles that no one on here uses to actually freeski.

to give everyone an idea of what offensive slow line fast bump skiing looks like watch this video.

    lastly chuck say

    "always stay forward"

I couldnt think of a more misguided statement, there is back pedaling motion in every good turn being done bump skiing, even chucks! If you absorb while being slammed into your boot your will get knocked REALLY far back, instead being slightly aft and then driving your tips down the backside is the way to go to maintain the best balance you can. just watch the above video...

and again this had nothing to with lifting you outside ski....
Yep, that's offensive alright, to watch. Modern bump skiers have much quieter upper bodies, pole plants, and typically don't break at the waist on every single turn like the guys in this video. Some good angulation though...
