    Washing/Protecting Non Tech Outerwear

Quick Question, I have some Flylow outerwear, non tech fabric so it doesn't need the special washes like Gortex and other tech fabrics would need. So, what is a cheap alternative? I am mainly concerned with some moisture protection after washing. Thanks

Nikwash techwash should work on all tech fabrics
I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

What does the care label say? It may not be a"technical" fabric, whatever that is, but it probably has some kind of water resistance treatment. The manufacturer knows best, hopefully. BTW Woolite is a good, cheap substitute for tech wash--the stuff for delicates, not the stuff for all wash.

My wife still scotchguards the furniture--the kids are grown but I'm still a slob.

it looks like they use a non-gortex membrane material which is probably as close to gortex as you can get without patent infringment

wash in a powdered detergent, wash again with NO detergent, spray on grangers/revivex/nikwax DWR treatment and I would thro in the dryer for a quicky

IME field testing DWR's they all work about the same

^^This. I've had the same experience. Pretty basic. Stay away from liquid detergents. REI sells some kind of tech wash in an orange bottle - I'd go look, but I'm hammered, and don't want to navigate the stairs. It works well though, and you can use it as a spot treatment too. That and some Nikwax - life is good.

+1 for Nikwax techwash. Get a big bottle and it doesn't seem as expensive
