I was wondering, are there any regions which will benefit from changing weather patterns over our lifetimes? Are there any places which were traditionally too dry or too cold that will gradually become secret powder wonderland's?

With four rain events already in December and current temps of 34 and rising in park city I think the future is bleak.

It's confirmed. Low precipitation levels in the Southern Rockies have caused a butthurt of epic proportions.

It's called a drought. They happen. They'll happen again. And you know what? They end too...

The Rockies will get drier, some models predict more drying then other western mountain areas. PNW will get more precip, but with warming this may cancel out...often FL are right at the passes as is. Higher lats in areas with increased precip may be the way to go. No one know what will happen with enso, however, so that's a tossup.

To really inform yourself, stop only considering el Nino/la Nina, and start looking at the PDO and AO phases and strengths, and their interactions in concert with ENSO.

When the planet has recovered from asteroid impacts, super volcanoes, ice ages, polar shifts, massive earthquakes ect...I'm not too worried about our poor planet. It will be here long after we' re gone. I get a kick out of the old growth forrest rhetoric, those are new trees even if they are 500 years old. If humans want to build stupidly along the coastline then suffer the consequences when sea levels rise. Climate change will only effect us dumb humans, the planet will recover if it's even noticed. It's laughable that we think we can dictate the long term health of this planet, it's recovered from far worse multiple times. The earth plugs along despite us but the more salient point I was making is that we, the species homo sapiens, have been plugging along and advancing despite the earth. We just came out of a glacial period about two or three days ago (appx.10,000yrs) if you are looking at a geological time scale. Antarctica and Greenland are still dominated by the residual ice sheets from the last glacial period and since that ice has not yet melted away, by some definitions, we are still in an ice age. The Pleistocene epoch has had a few ice ages over the last 2.5 million years and human beings were around and evolving through all of it. The most recent kept us as primitive hunter-gathers huddled along the african coasts because the interior of that continent was mostly a vast desert during the last ice age. If one is the sort that freaks out every time a big chunk of ice falls off an antarctic ice sheet....hmmmm....well, I hate to tell you this but, except for during ice ages, Earth has been ice free at the polar latitudes for the majority of its existence. Its the ice ages that are the abnormality, the great exterminators of life. The earth was warm during the dinosaur period and those species reigned for millions and millions of years. The last ice age kept homo sapiens pinned down along the margins of Africa but as the glaciers retreated, homo sapiens, equipped only with neolithic tools, filled almost every niche available on the planet regardless of its climate.
