    Muscle/tendon strain recovery Q& A

Strained upper calf/lower hamstring middle outside(tail dragged while sliding upsidedown). Swelling going down quick(18 hrs ) Wondering if I should just rest? Stretching feels good...is that O K and safe? I like an ice/heat /ice /stretch therapy...Any recovery tips would be helpfull. I had an mcl tear a long while back & this kinda felt like the physical therapy guy forced the STRETCH back into my whole middle leg..MCL looks great/maybee even better?, but is a little sore. Can extend fully as I stretch/hamstring hurts to retract leg.I think this was the last scar tissue left .

about 48 hrs since pull...hamstring is REALLY bruised 2.5''x 1'' size(starts 1 " above knee back);back of knee good...most swelling gone everywhere.Top of calf has a bruise ,below the knee. outside hamstring above knee is bruised good too.And a bruise where the tendon over the mcl is(I think scar tissue had this tendon working funky ;but feels properly aligned now and better) ANY TIPS for this NASTY hamstring bruise? or bump up an old muscle/tendon pull thread maybee? I WANT to SKI SOONER than LATER

Sounds like a torn hamstring. The bruising could be from getting hit by a ski, etc, but a tear seems more likely. A real diagnosis from an MD or PT would give you a timeline/prognosis. PT treatment could help and acupuncture would be even better (the real deal in my opinion). Disclosure: I'm a PT and my wife is an acupuncturist. But we're in Sugarhouse so PM if we can help.

med websites say- hamstring use is affected by calf tear. accupuncture sounds good, ill have to PM ya for some info acetabulum. Looks like an upper calf muscle tear, grade 2 is the main show(bruise blood was comming from there, prob from leg elevation)/ minor outer and inner quad muscle tear/ minor mcl

I'm assuming the knee is stable, full range of motion, etc. Mainly it will take time to heal, much longer than you think it should. If you follow sports you know that players with muscle pulls always come back to soon and always reinjure themselves and are never right until next season at the soonest. I'm skeptical about the acupuncture or anything else other than rest, although there are a lot of fancy things you can do. One thing to consider--you tore the muscle because it was strong enough to protect the ligaments. You don't want the muscle too loose or stretched. Better to tear a muscle than a ligament.

Well this is a 4-5 week injury;if anyone has to deal w/similar stuff,a Calf tear puts alot of strain on the achilles(caution, use heel riser).. I may have recovered quicker, but one slip in a store, bruised mcl ,lol......i'll be leaving gimpland, & goodluck to those still here
