    Powerball

I don't play the lottery. But I always wondered (daydreamed) what I would do if I won some stupid amount of money. PB is +$500M right now. As a think exercise, what would you do? I assume retire. But would you start a company? Just invest? Buy some prime real estate in places that were likely to go up in the next 10+ years? I know we could all never do anything again and have money for our childrens childrens children, but if you were to think about that money making you money...what would you do? I know it's a stupid pipe dream, but its a fun thought experiment.

I would travel ... for about 5 years ... bring along private tutors for my kids and show my daughters other parts of the world (good and bad).

Invest in companies run by people that I like. Start some non-profits to donate to causes that catch my fancy. Buy a couple of ski-town properties to vacate in or move to. And I like the opening of a bar idea, always have. And probably pay for a Mag heli-ski summit for the best 100 posts this year.

5 years? You could travel forever on that coin. What after that 5 years?

I would set up a foundation, and oversee it. I might dabble in investing in things like renewable energy, but for the most part I'd conservatively invest what I needed to comfortably ensure my family's future (fuck yeah, I'm rich, biatch!), and oversee the charitable distribution of the rest.

Pre-kid, I always said I'd buy a heli-ski lodge, spend most of the winter there and have my friends sign up for a week at a time, all they'd have to do is figure out how to get to starting point. Post-kid, I don't think I would. I would just go on lots of ski trips.

Hopefully, continue to live in the community.

But a 2nd home in the mountains and a third on a beach.

    Get in shape.

    Stay married.

    Invest in stocks.

Give relatives a one-time gift. Make that aspect very clear. Don't ask again.

Start a foundation...and others need to submit request to it for funds.

    Donate to worthy causes.

Pay taxes, join Netjets to storm chase (with friends and family), and join Augusta National and Cypress Point.

Again... that isn't going to go through $500m (lets say 300 or less after taxes) for the rest of your life. Get real. I'm sure we'd all do that shit. Think outside the box. Ak trips, storm chasing ans golf isn't all that money could do. You could literally do all that living off the interest of that money and you know it. If you invested it all and made a measly 1% you would still make $3M before taxes per year. We're talking crazy money here.

Easily $10-20m a year for that stuff first class. At a 4% burn rate that's about the right amount. How much you think it costs to join Cypress point and pay dues?

Considering I have the winning ticket on my fridge right now, what I plan to do is walk into work and tell them all to go fuck themselves. Then I would pay off all of my immediate families debts, mortgages, student loans, etc. Then I would give them all a nice lump sum each, say 5 M per person (about 30 M total.) I would continue pursuing my Master's degree because I think it's super interesting, but then I would probably just invest/stock away the rest of the money and live off the interest for the foreseeable future. Travel when I wanted, chase storms, build my dream mountain bikes and ride the best trails, spend lots of time with the wife and kids. I don't think I'd live extravagantly though, probably just a modest off-grid sustainable house with normal cars in a beautiful place and be fucking happy as a clam about the whole thing.

You have better chance of winning the lottery then becoming a member at either club .
I include myself in that category , even if I won the lottery .

I'd quit investing other people's money and just work my own, including planning for a much larger estate!.

Other than starting and overseeing a charitable foundation, I'd pay off our house, update the family cars and probably buy one or two properties my family would use in fun places. In addition, I'd buy my folks and in-laws real estate from them to relieve them of any further payments and prop taxes...of course they would still reside in their respective properties.

Other than that I'd keep things on the same track. No desire for my kids to grow up too spoiled or living extra large. Instead of getting paid to work my ass off 10-12 hrs a day, I'd do a lotta volunteering for "work".

I would invest in snowmaking technology in Colorado because that's the future here.

Build a Dubai style indoor ski area in Denver.

Travel and stay in 5-star hotels all the time.

I would create my own toilet paper brand that is marketed to the absolute rich.

Probably would then buy my way into the political world. Start out with congress and move up.

This. I'm already a daily hire so no job to quit, I just wouldn't be nearly as available as I was... basically work when I felt like it.

I wouldn't buy stocks, but I'm sure my wealth manager will. Dunno about the Foundation. Would have to weigh that vs. donating a percentage of my annual return to various causes/charities. That's up to the attorneys to figure out.

Can't just fuck off and leave with the family. There's no way my wife is walking away from the business she built from nothing.

My favorite sports team(s) all cost way more than that. A Mt. Resort? Why not just burn the money in a bonfire?

lump sum, cash, have an attorney pick it up for me so that its anonymous

don't let ANYONE besides family and close friends know

    hookers and blow

    weekly heli-ski trips

    parties

    think The Great Gatsby

rent out resorts with the best terrain on pow days so that only myself and a select few of my friends could join me in untracked freshies, all day.
