Today I noticed a funny pattern in my P-Tex and am wondering if anyone knows what it's from, and if it's a problem. It's directly underfoot, only on one ski. If I run a fingernail over it, I can't feel any texture.

It's most likely just left over wax which wasn't scraped or buffed completely off, and has oxidized. Take a plastic scraper to it. Also, check your bases for flatness in that area. A lot of times the ski is a little edge-high in that spot.
I think I see a likeness of Elvis in there... or is it Jesus... ?
I'm wondering more about your gold colored edges.
Good chance that's a slight high spot manifesting a concavity in the base that's collected wax that has stress fractured. If that's what it is and you feel the need for a flat base just grind the shit out of the base and edges on a stone. [that's what shop techs do really good]
Or - scrape that shit off and fill the spot by smearing it a couple times with a base weld gun, then do a light grind, and you'll have a perfect base. [not what shop techs do]
damn splat!! beat me too it... id say the base is the least of your worries when you have edges that look like that^^^....Originally Posted by splat

Don't worry, they're silver in real life. Must be a wierd reflection from my flash. Fancy goddamn camera.
Then it is a slight concavity. It's happened in a few skis we've shipped. It's one of the issues we addressed in the new mold we just got. The heating pad under the bottom of the press wasn't quite wide enough for the bros, so we built it up to pad height to prevent the edges from going down during pressing. We also adjusted the sidewall height by .2 mm to make sure that wasn't a contributing factor, plus we got thicker bases and have a stone coming to finish them off perfectly before shipping.
All that said - it's a wax buildup in a slight concavity that can be fixed with adding some base material from a base weld gun, followed by a superlight stoning. I've had to coach a couple shop techs through this because they think grinding the hell out of skis is the panacea for anything base related.
