Just purchased the 2012 Salomon Quest 12 because of an insanely good deal on Dept of Goods. Yes I am aware of the issues some have had including broken buckles and the tech inserts. I was less concerned regarding the broken buckles...this seemed slighly more remote. I know Salomon recalled the tech inserts but I read somewhere that they had corrected the problem and offered newly re-designed inserts. Anyway my boots don't have tech inserts and I was hoping to purchase them. I literally just received the boots in the mail and have been searching online to purchase the tech inserts but cannot find any info. At first glance the boot really appealed to me based on the description and price. I ski 90% resort, 10% tour. I like the boot so far but that doesn't mean dick as I haven't skied yet. Was surprised that they are advertised as 120 flex index (feels like 100).
I have Dukes but would like to eventually get a full touring set-up (next season). This got me thinking about tech inserts and what to do if I cannot find them. Since I don't want to buy another boot anytime soon I might return this boot. Are there any dedicated stiff AT boots that are geared more for the alpine resort skier and compatible with Alpine bindings (I am using Dukes to tour until next season)? As I see it the Quest boots are for the Alpine skier looking for an AT cross-over. I guess I amlooking for an AT boot that is alpine binding compatible and skis like an Alpine boot.
P.S. Anyone know where to find the tech inserts?
