ipad mini vs nexus 7 vs?

Yeah yeah tech talk. I'm invoking the iceman clause: if it isn't ski related tech, it belongs in the PR.

So, the mini starts at $329 with 16 gigs and a slightly bigger display. Did it just kill the Nexus 7, or will the intrenched camps remain? I'm not a fan of being locked into the i-universe complete with proprietary connector, but this thing would be incredibly useful to me. I might be swayed. What's your take?

What are you going to do with it? What apps do you want to use?

Whichever you get, you need to call it a phablet. Or a tablephone.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Pretty simple decision really. If you want/need iOS and don't mind spending more go iPad mini. If you prefer Android and/or want to save $130 go Nexus 7.

@ HC - I have a ton of work related stuff that I can use any computer for, but I don't have an office - all I do is travel. I currently carry an android phone and a netbook. This would replace the latter. All the apps I need are available for both platforms. I was ready to buy a nexus (mostly based on price), but was waiting to see what apple was going to counter with.

Apples to apples, the difference is $80.

I'm already firmly in the android camp, but apple hardware is really nice.

edit: I meant for this to be more of a discussion than a recommendation thread.

yea, but i would wait a week for googles conference. they are bumping up the size for starters so the 16GB will likely be the 200 dollar one and they are bringing out two 32GB models, one with data.

supposedly prices will remain the same except the data model will be more expensive obviously.

they are also supposedly releasing a new 10 in one too

My bad, forgot there is no microSD slot on the Nexus. Personally I'd want a full size tablet if I were replacing a netbook.

So unless you are a fanboi and enjoy paying a premium for a brand I fail to see what the question is here.

But don't let me stop you from lining up with the rest of the hipster sheep to get the next overpriced fashion statement...

Yeah, the no sd card is a gripe of mine too. Most of my co-workers have a full sized tablet - mostly ipads - but I've always wanted something halfway between that and a phone.

I didn't realize that google was going to up the ante next week. Should be interesting.

Since it's mainly for work, Microsoft Surface? though absent the MS Office product suite, I would see no other reason to purchase one.

I ragged on the apple premium for a long time, I fail to see the big premium here because even "apples to apples" isn't apples to apples.

No retina display, no sale, especially at that price point. I feel like I need glasses when looking at older iPads. Hopefully google steps up next week with a better display.
