now is not a bad time for chains. ALL the roads are snow covered which is huge for chains. you never have to take them off compared to when just the passes are snow covered you have to take them on and off to go skiing every day. chains without snow suck. chains with snow is slower, but i am going to pass you regardless.

kind of wishing I had fresh tread on the snow tires today, a bit more ground clearance, and not-so-worn differentials ...

    (harpo's driveway sucks )

You'll make it eventually, try to get over the pass before the next big wave hits and you will probably cut a lot of time off your drive, could be closed or near whiteout around noon though.

    From BA
Looking at this evenings forecast model runs it looks like the next wave will push in heavy snow late Sunday morning to around noon. Then it will last into the evening with snow showers overnight into Monday morning. Total additional accumulations of 12-18 inches at lake level, 18-24 above 7000 ft., and 24-36 above 8000 ft. with the highest amounts West of the lake along the crest.

....and now it appears that the Christmas day blue sky day is no more; Monday (after 10 AM??) might be the calmest it gets for a while.

Avalanche above the fingers at squaw. Kt was spinning an it hit a chair. At least one guy fell off. Vibes...

Was that the fatality unofficial announced this morning? 71 year old hit a tree yesterday.

Big loss rift before the holidays let alone anytime. Stay safe up there crowd.

Seems like the what someone had mentioned the other day about the faceted snow from last week is the weak spot. Got to be that and from the heinous ice sheet from the rain even mid December. I was up there last week and was some serious death crust under about 6 inches of smooth wind buff.

Guy who fell off is apparently ok but kt is done for the day. Basically what happened is Avy came in hot off the fingers and hit my chair and the one behind it. Felt like more than the powder cloud. It bounced both chairs harder than shit...

Word from patrol is no one else was caught.

Condolences to f&f of the KT skier. And I'm glad to hear the snow gods spared the folks on KT today.

Winds are turning Heavenly's snow into Mammoth windbuff today ... Awaiting the next wave that is yet to hit.

4th chair up Gunbarrel today and Face popped right off the bat. Great morning resort skiin with the Heave crew today! Maggots were out in full force early today. Called it at 1130 and saving my legs for tomorrow ...

Some of the Wilder weather I've skied in. Was on roundhouse when they quit loading wind had us staring at the ground, first time I've thought a chair was sketchy. Alpine is running HW and shoveling Scott and yellow, but can't.imagine Scott will go today. Everyone be safe both skiind and on the roads.

Dude, you have all night to rest. And all next week. You best be working on a little drunk if you've quit so early.

I'm a little jealous of you guys, but not terribly. Just hoping when all is said and down a cold layer persists and I can find some stashes to play in to finish the old year.

So speaking of FWD and chains, if I wanted to go up tomorrow or whenever this week, is north or south lake a better bet? I'm in Sac and don't have a pass this year so I can just as easily head up either way.

prolly north lake will be easier and a safer bet.

today was good. some denser snow up high at heavenry so i thought it was better lower. soooo stoked to ski some lake level lines after this system settles out. we didnt get to do much of that last year. niners gonna lose tonight

Forgot how long it takes to drive across town when the roads are crap and there are lots of rookie snow drivers out. Had just clicked into my skis when gunbarrel stated loading, ended up shredding all morning with amydalayna, she rips! After she bugged out no one was answering there phones and the crowds were getting sucky so I donned my skins and got to an area with no tracks and finished my day there.

Lunch time and no one to be found!

I like the right turn to north bowl. We were doing it a fair share last year when the conditions below the lower burn were sketchy.

... and took somebody with it???

That's how I'm reading it, and wow that's a big inbounds slide if true. I wasn't there. Heading up tomorrow, bars down, beacon on.

What is that about one per year for the last decade now for inbounds releases on open terrain during operating hours?
Besides the comet that killed the dinosaurs nothing has destroyed a species faster than entitled white people.-ajp
