Sierra was real good today too, everything in play but the gates and a-bowl. Some guy also thought he could drive his Jeep Wrangler all the way to west bowl via marmot and got stuck.

How deep was Sierra on Saturday?

A bit late, but this is from Preachers at Sierra. Deep enough for some fun. Over & over again! Just the 2 of us!

As others have said, it was a gloriously uncrowded day. A gift to peeps like us.
We did find plenty of buried ice, stone & wood. Got knocked down a couple of times, but hey, that snow was fooking great!
Best day out for a while.
Sorry to hear you got gimped Nuthon. Come back strong!

Us & The (bayareaski)Bus should be at KW this Saturday. Yay!

BG: what are you talking about???
Keyhole and high yellow were open and skiing superbly today... They were the only hikes open because they were the only zones that didn't rip out down to the ice layer

    Maybe try squaw?!?

^^ I'm confused too. Also, Roundhouse opened all of 5 minutes late due to massive freezing / icing over since it was unusually cold last night (I got up there at 11pm and my car said it was 1 degree), and I guess there were a few complications related to the power outage yesterday. No big deal.

    QFT.

I understood from discussions with employees and others that the lift opening delays were due to icing over during the power outages, when the lifts couldn't run. Bear in mind that patrol rides lifts too, so that probably slowed the whole process down. And even if there turned out to be no hazard somewhere, that doesn't mean that someone didn't have to confirm it was okay before it could be opened.

Anecdote: I was waiting for sixth civilian chair on Summit. Lift op came out and said at least 10-15 before we could possibly start loading. Patrol came out 5 minutes later and waved everyone on. Sure seemed to me like they were trying to get people on the hill.

"Keyhole and high yellow were open"

It obviously opened after I left and only after the I-80 of traverse lines was below all of it. So what, you got maybe 5 turns of fresh?
Why would it not be open when summit opened then? They always do this. Let it get completely traversed out then open it. Same with idiots and Beaver. Some days they do have their shit together and get it all open. Squaw patrollers are heads and shoulders above AM. I'm sure it's just one guy who decides all this. They need a new head patroller imo.
It must be a skier thing to enjoy traversing 1 mile to get 100 vertical feet of fresh.

I know the current one pretty well and would put $ on it being out of his hands. He's a stand up guy who is constantly trying to open as much terrain as possible and avoid what you're talking about. Last year he was all about opening the Alpine-Squaw traverse in the mornings come spring but obviously wasn't aloud to. I'd bet some of the decisions are being made for him via new ownership.

    BG,

Why don't you actually go to the patrol shack & confront them about it. Instead of bitching like an over privileged child on some internet forum. & if you don't like their answer then stop going to AM. I'm sure they won't miss you.

I know where your coming from, I have seen patrol open the wall @ kwood but not the ridgeline out to once is enough. Then once they do open the ridgeline there is a not just 1 traverse line but 5 or 6 major highways that have to be crossed. 2 options, 1. go slow & be careful of the traverse lines, 2. Stop being a pussy, point it out .

BG, Summit opened about 11. Keyhole popped after 1pm.

The chairs were smothered in ice rime so no surprise it took a while to get it going. Short staffed and not on their A game. No big deal I got to ski.

Although, if an area is closed because it hasn't been cleared, it doesnt make a whole lot of sense to let people traverse right below it.

Not exactly how that transpired, but whatever.

traverse lines are one of the more unpleasant AM facts of life. Wolverine bowl is usually one massive traverse line. It would be nice to ski beaver top to bottom in fresh, for that matter it would be nice to ski our father in fresh by traversing along the ridge from AB rather than from Sherwood. It would be nice to ski high yellow without running into traverse lines and moguls from people traversing from terry's return. I don't expect any of that to change--just the way it is. I suppose patrol could rope off all the low traverses, and then other people would complain. And how often is Keyhole fresh anyway--just about every time I've skied it it's ripped.

    Squaw was adequate yesterday.

The snow in the greater Rose area this morning was awesome--boot deep and silky smooth. We skied safe lines, but the snow felt a bit more consolidated and safe than yesterday. Also, it was cold.

I started to read it, but decided to just wait till I am in a bar in Incline this weekend. After finding out how many Bouys will be allowed and at what price, its all about the bitching and rumors. I hear they might have gotten it right cuz almost evryone is pissed.

Seems NV threatening to pull out broke the ice (So to speak)

TRPA itself doesn't have a clear summary that's stated in terms of practical impacts (all their stuff is stated in terms of policy objectives rather than policy measures):
    http://www.trpa.org/default.aspx?tabid=130

KQED covered some of the changes in a radio article:
    http://www.californiareport.org/archive/R201212130850/b

    And Tahoe Daily Tribune:
