rode it on Saturday and Sunday. Dry doesn't even begin to describe it. Endo'd on Saturday and broke my right wrist (thought it was just a sprain). Endo'd on Sunday and broke my left wrist. Still rode all the way to the end and back to town.

I suck at going fast over sandstone shelves....

Yep, aware of that, thanks. I might just have to ride up from Warner and turn around when I have to head down for the meeting.

I'm a little nervous about this race, but at the same time, since I am fat and out of shape I have zero expectations... which means it's just going to be fun as hell.

    Jesus christ!

Rule # 1: get hurt all you want but always be able to wipe your own ass.

I think you may be in violation.

That sounds like the worst preride ever. Drink beer and take it easy. Employ straws if necessary.

I wasn't pre-riding it, just doing it for fun. Not sure if that makes it better or worse

Left will be casted once swelling goes down. Right will be splinted in order to not violate rule #1.

I expect to gain 10 unnecessary pounds over Canadian Thanksgiving in prep for ski season.

I'll check it out on Thursday evening. The Snotch has gotten real bad with the dry summer / heavy use. I've suggested adding a wooden bridge at the 180 turn, just down maybe 5' (I'll donate the wood / do the work if they want). I think this would be way more sustainable and keep all the one-time riders from draging their brakes down the whole thing. Maybe after the race we will get a little traction to do something with the FS.

My first pilgramage to Mecca this weekend, so stoked (and a little nervous). Will be on the Enchilada Saturday. Sounds like 3pm will be the time to ride without all you racers riding my ass.

Dayum. way to get after it, I guess.

Broken wrists suck. I feel 1/2 of your pain.

I posted that before I saw your new whip. Then I was like, "oh yeah, he'll make it down just fine."

If you dont make up to the top, here's what to expect: Off the top, Burro is kinda rough, old school, piney, side hill switchbacks. I think theres about 4-6 switchbacks. Kinda like the 2nd descent stage of the Wasatch End, in terms of shutting it down and finessing through, but everything is a little steeper. Don't get carried away, there are tight turns that people will almost certainly blow out of. It straightens out a little lower down and follows the creek. There are a few creek crossings, then a little climb up through some aspens, followed by some fast, kinda wide track. There are a lot of sniper rocks everywhere when you start haulin. Then it just rolls out into Warner Lake. You know the drill from there, yes? Don't blow the fast gravelly right hand turn up to the Hazard Parking lot. Get your climb on for a few minutes, then get groovy on Hazard.

    Thanks joetron!

So what kind of tires are folks running for this? Anyone going full DH 2-plys? Seems silly but I think I can get away with lighter tires on Porc than I can on Dark Hollow Super D.

If I were racing, I was thinking I'd try a tube + tubeless setup with 2.3 minions. Drill a second hole in your rim and put a tubeless valve in it. Throw some stans or whatever in, get the tire to seat tubeless, and ride it around a bit. Then throw a standard tube in.

Extra flat protection with relatively minimal weight gain.

TuBliss setup is dope for sure but not something i would recommend creating a few days before the race. Stevie smith has that setup on his dh race bike.

I'm running my standard 2.5 dhf exo set tubeless up front, and 2.25 LUST Crossmark in back. I feel like good results will come from survivaling and flowing Burro/Hazard/LPS/UPS then truly pedaling your ass off on Porc Proper. For me personally, I think 2 ply tires would start to feel real sluggish about an hour in.

I'm not really following the twobliss setup? So you have a tube in a non-ust tire that is set up tubeless? More sidewall support? I don't get it.

Not so much sidewall support, mostly just flat protection. If you pinch or puncture the tube, all the air in the tube just flows out into the tire, which has already been sealed up with Stans. You just keep riding with a flat tube inside your still-inflated tire. But as long as the tube hasn't flatted, you don't have to worry about burping the tubeless tire, and sidewall tears aren't necessarily disastrous (depending on how bad the tear is).

Agreed w/ simple though - probably would take some experimentation prior to race day.

If I were racing, I'd go 2 ply DH rear (2.5 Minion DHF 60a) and heavy duty single ply front (in my case, the Specialized Butcher 2.3 SX) both set up tubeless on Flows with yellow tape.

But since I didn't bid on the ebay Enduro entry that just ended a few minutes ago, i will never know if that would be the hot setup.

Good luck to all of you racing, btw. Stoked to hear the stories on Monday.

FYI I am 185#ish kitted up, and incredibly unsmooth with cat-unlike reflexes and I like to jump off everything. If I were lighter and had anything resembling finesse, grace, and/or skill on a bike, I'd consider a lighter tire setup for sure.

For all those that didn't get in, there is a contest on Vital for an entry.

Damn, just checked out the Strava segment for the 20.7 mile timed portion. This Kyle Mears fella did it in just under 1 hour 25 minutes!!

These dudes are fast as shit.

Are any big time pros gonna be in this race?

^ Kyle has won the underground race a lot, and is fast as hell.

Thanks for the tire thoughts; I'm going tubeless with some minty-fresh TL-ready Schwalbeees.

Confuzled here, where does that Strava timed section start? Top of Burro (no climb included) or where, exactly?

Starts at top of Burro, climb not included. Ends at the ropes right before lower porc singletrack.

    So, basically, NTWE.
Shouldn't there be an informal record from Shuttle drop off to the road? (Stravaasholes unite!)
