a 7 year old showed up at practice with white and neon yellow boots yesterday - he asked what I thought of them - I told him I thought they look silly
"Looks good on you, though..."

I'd like to know this: Do you adults playing soccer in rec leagues get injured frequently? I spent a large chunk of my youth on soccer fields but transitioned to outdoor sports after high school. Sometimes I would consider kicking ball again, but never allowed myself for fear of clumsy oafs crashing into me and wrecking a knee. How often are you past-glory "athletes" hobbling off the pitch with a knee or an ankle done in?
Now I play tennis.

^^^^^ depends. the majority of adult futbolers in our community our under 40. like 95% of them. they (we) dont get hurt that often. two reasons i believe contribute to this: 1) there is a strict no slide tackling rule in our league. automatic yellow and bench. and 2.) there arent really that many people who take it too seriously, and those mouth breathers who tend to go full throttle after 50/50 balls are quickly reigned in by his teammates and players of the opposing side. this is recfucking soccer, no heroes here.
- Now those few players over forty....... they pull up lame all the time, especially if they are in shit for shape.
------Last night was our last match of the season. 40 degrees and 50 mph winds.... made things interesting and pretty miserable.
LET IT SNOW!!!!!
That sounds reasonable, regarding 50/50 balls intensity. I was always concerned that the ratio between hard-charging attitude and aged, diminished skills/coordination would result in joint casualties. But maybe guys in rec leagues are more sensible than I guessed. Good to hear. Still not sure it would be worth the challenge of attempting to get myself back in soccer shape ....

I fucked up my shoulder bad goalkeeping indoors as an adult. 2 surgeries. I have not played since.

Soccer is too much fun to quit for fear of injury. Speaking personally, I continue to think I am 18 when I step on the pitch. This is great because I run more than I should but it sucks as soon as I step off the field and begin my 4 days of recovery from soreness. Although, I do play very little during ski season - can't get hurt for that!
Our pick-up games also have a no slide tackling rule and any blow-hards that get too crazed get shamed off the field by the more sensible.
you gotta be faster than the most aggro dudes - when that ceases to be the case, I'm out!
(I'm 35 in a 35 & over league!)

Regarding the neon cleats, try on the top of the line Adidas F50. You will quickly cease caring about what color they are. They weigh nothing, and fit like slippers. They also last forever. I am on year 2 with mine, and they look new. Leather boots only ever lasted me 6 months tops. Last pair of Predators lasted 4 months, then I got the F50. The old Tunits were great too. At $200, they better last.

I bought a pair of Puma Kings about a year ago. I wore them 6x and they tore. Now I have cloth tape holding them together. Granted, my feet have been described by my soccer teammates as "birth defects", so there's that.
Now that you say this, I just may give them a try. Do they have to come in those ridiculous colors though?
Also, back in the day, I used to sew my Adidas Copa Mundials back together with fishing line cuz I didn't have the heart to tell my Dad I fucked up another pair of cleats due to my freak-feet (inherited from Mom).
Copas were the worst. They made my knees hurt so bad.
Look for the Adidas f50 Adizero synthetic line. They have some tamer colors, and most of them are customizable, if that's your thing. They do not stretch, so make sure they fit right before you use them.

So, the league I was in was frustrating due to lack of good management and constant rain-outs. Thinking I'm gonna play indoor - any advice?
