I seem to have gotten lucky with my now 15 year old POS GE.

It was just outside the warranty when the original transmission totally failed. I took it to the local repair shop and they somehow got GE to send a new transmission and installed it and billed GE. Cost me about 20 dollars in beer as a thank you.

Jonnys Appliance in 4 Corners rocks!

We picked up a used washer/dryer something like 12 years ago from one of my wife's coworkers. After we'd had it for about 5 years, the washer stopped working for any cycle but "easy care" and "delicate". Repair guy said the fix was a new motherboard and it wasn't worth it, so everything has been washed on easy care ever since then. Planned obsolescence is a hell of a thing, the motherboard would have cost more than buying another used washer.

We have Whirlpool washer and dryer.

Conveniently the washer’s drain filter is right behind the front panel for easy access to clean it out.

Except to make the design more eye catching on the sales floor, they moved away from having a removable lower panel on the front. Gotta get rid of that seam.

So the proper procedure is now a major disassembly of the machine to do routine maintenance that should take a minute or two.

But! Luckily I’m 6’4”, so my arm is juuuuuust long enough to reach the filter through the backside, which still involves pulling the stacked washer and dryer out of their cubby, taking back panel off, and a bunch of cursing trying to get the filter off and back on.

If I was an inch or two shorter I’d be unstacking everything and pulling half the washing machine apart.

The ON button on our Maytag dish washer didn't turn the machine on. 5 years and one month old just past the warranty. Landlord came next day and swapped it out for a $400 GE from HD. Then he went on with his life.

smart kid is smart, so when it ceased to wash anything very well I pulled the trigger on a new Bosch and wow does thing clean,

I never rinse anything and it washes it all, I hope it keeps running well

My grandma has a 70yr old Russian made fridge. Door's perfectly level. The shelves are made out of aluminum not shitty brittle plastic. Everything works and is in good condition. Fucking bomber. Most modern fridges fall apart in 10 years. Is this part of the cost of liberal democracy?

Compressor on a two year old fridge. Drain pump on a three year old washer. Heating element and belt tensioner on a two year old dryer. Drain pump, wash pump, shutoff valve and countless plastic shelf parts over the sixish year life of a dishwasher. Them’re just parts, nothing to do with chi chi.

30 yo kenmore w/d works like new. All mechanical switches. I’ve replaced the lint catcher. I think they were built by Speed Queen.

Same. Lid switch on the washer. That’s it. Cleaned the internals of the drier a couple times in the last 15yrs. Cleaned out the washer tub and associated lint and cobwebs when I was diagnosing the lid switch issue. No computer, simple circuit motherboard. I’ve seen similar models on local marketplace for cheap and so tempted to pick up one and just store for parts, but I’m saving the space for a second fridge.

Probably jinxing it now, but coming up on 20 years with LG Tromm front loaders. Pulled a few kid socks and wife thongs out of the filter over the years. Replaced a belt one time about 12 years ago.

Bought new LG front loaders because we figured we were due for a bigger failure, but the old ones are still going strong (with my brother at my old house). New ones don't clean too much better than old ones. LG knows washers. I'm sure some fail. Ours haven't.

In other news, fuck Dacor. Would never buy intentionally, but came with new house (oven and range). Some appliance companies suck balls. Dacor is a frontrunner.
