My not so in depth Multi-ski 05-06 Review.

The Atua, which is a wood-core, vertical sidewalls, full twin-tip 186cm with a 96mm waist is my favorite ski out of the new line. Similar to a burly Pocket Rocket that is a ton of fun to ski everywhere... They even got rid of the neon freeride race bindings and have a rad new line of boots... w00t.

i wanna see these things. infact i wanna see the whole lineup.

Duker - I dare say you didn't like the 184 Mantra because you're too light. You either need to weigh more or work harder to make the 184 talk to you. I skied both the 177 and the 184 Mantra; in my opinion, there was a marked between the two lengths. I love them both, but I'm buying 184's.

Bandit Man - The Mantra is not a twin. The tail is slightly turned up, but it's no twin.

The faithful have spoken and Volkl has resurrected the G4/AX4. The 7/24 moniker is now a thing of the past. The new designation is Unlimited and there are numerous skis models in the Unlimited lineup; but, the ski that most closely resembles the G4/AX4 is the Unlimited AC4.

Most, but not all, Volkls will be available in seven centimeter increments this coming year, i.e., 170, 177, 184 & 191.

It's going to be a good year.



Edit to clear up BM's misconception about the Mantra being a twin.

I hated the unlimited's, felt very flat and stale. Had the same feel as the 724 series, dead no snap.

Loved the mantra. Plowed and charged. I am 205lbs, 5'11", raced some europa cup in europa and have extensive big mt AK experience. I love a stiff stable ski. My everyday ski is a elan 777 in a 192, and pow ski is a rossi squad x, in a 196 100 under foot.
999 was suprisingly good even though it was super soft. Busted through the chopped snow.
Outlaw and recon where the best i skied, and i skied on about 30 models over three days at copper. Conditions where shiate, about 5 inches on top of bullet proof snow,
Snow is much better in Pitkin COunty right now.

I skied the 176( ithink). Broken snow, hard pack variable. It worked great. I have been saying for the last three years that laminates ski so miuch better than caps. Here is a perfect example. The ski has so much sole to it (like a elan 777). It has a great feel to it, charges through pow, does not deflect at speed and floats great.
As for the outlaw and recon, those skis just rock. Light but stable, snappy while also damp. Believe me, i hate to admit that a ski made in china rocks, but it does. Even in really hard snow it intiatiates smooth and drives throught the turn. K2 has it nailed. Between the graphics and its skiablitliy this ski will repesent a large portion of skis bought by retailors.
Elan ran a close second for overall skiablility in there line.

What! The new SS Stormriders have an 85mm waist! DOH! I hath purchased my skis a season too early. Between the XL and the DP, went with the XL. Thought I made the right call, but now this.... Oh well, everyone should have multiple pairs of skis anyway. Right?:-D

Skideeppow, I was planning to replace my scratch bc's with the 999's next year primarily because I love my stiffer 777's & explosivs. I was hoping that the 999 would be a fatter version of the 777, but it sounds like it's a totally different ski. How would you rank them in terms of softness.

We begged the boys at elan to do just what you said but alll for not. It is very soft, nothing like the 777. I was super dissapointed.

No the outlaw is a 86 under foot all mountain ski, you can ski in the bumps but not a zipper line bump ski.
