Anyone in for the Taos comp?

Kristen and I faxed our info in, and will be skiing starting Thurs the 10th.

Qualifyer is scheduled for Kachina Peak, and the organizers are saying it's off-limits except for competitors to pre-run before Friday's first heat. Needless to say, I'm stoked.

I'm looking around for some more pics of the venues from recently, but I don't have a scanner here and most of my pics are from season's past.

    Any help?

Pm us for contact info and such, like where to find the best Bfast burrito, the closet liqour store, and what to do when being circled by the packs of wild dogs that roam the Pueblo.

Wow, the pic worked. I thought I was way more inept at the interweb.

The pic is of Kachina Peak, Mother's Day '99. It was about as covered as it ever gets, so expect way more terrain features to be showing for the comp.

Doesn't really show the whole peak, though I can see the line I want to ski.

Get some ridge action for me Trescow. I would love to come out to the comp. The coverage was great when I was there a few weeks ago.

Oddly, Taos is one of the few places getting any snow - 22" in the last 5 days. Go figure.

Mcwop, would you mind searching your vacation pics for the Peak and West Basin area?

Not too odd for snow around that time. A couple Feb ago, it snowed almost the entire month. We were skiing pow everyday, and lines which hadn't been skiable in some time. Good times

Thanks for the pics, not much has changed. See the corner of that first pic, the long rocky nose ending in some big airs near the lift?

    Mucho borracho!

Though, I did promise Yetiman that Turbinator would go down, just for him.

    So many choices.

Hmmmm...Taos comp...wasn't really considering it earlier this season, but given the chances that Crystal and Fernie will go off, maybe a trip to Taos for the comp is in the making...Takers from PNW?????

That pic was taken just after I skied it, and that was immediately after it opened. I was on the lift headed for run #2. It takes a bit to get out there, which keeps people away. It was a not very crowded weekday as well.

Ever hear of these things called airplanes?

Seriously, though, even if you can find a cheap flight into Albuquerque you'd have to rent a car to drive to Taos.

Best way to Taos is fly to Albuquerque (sp) and shuttle or rent a car to the mountain. I don't know if you can fly in to there. You can fly into santa fe but I believe it's really expensive.

The 2nd pic is a worthy area. The entrances can be really tricky the first time in, but once you get the area dialed it's all good.

Follow the nose down in the dead center of the pic. Towards the bottom, between the 2 skiable areas with tracks, is a mandatory air section into a pocket affectionalty termed( at least when I lived there) as the Toliet bowl. Good stuff, though it takes forever to fill in and often is no good due to the downed trees that get covered just enough to ruin your day.

    But when it's good...

    Git er done

Looks like there's snow forecast for the weekend, as well as periods of tequila consumption and rowdy line selections.

Kristen and I are leaving for Taos Wed morning, and will be out schlarping Thurs thru Sun.

We shouldn't be too tough to spot seeing that we're prone to wearing bright clothing, skiing on exploders, and saying fkna alot. If anyone's going to be around, track us down and we'll pack it up above cabin chute.

    Till next time...
