Nice to cool off on a hot day.
Nice to cool off on a hot day.
No action shots because we were both busy paddling any rapids, but my best friend from college recently got off a two year stint teaching in China and had a month stateside before going off to another gig in Egypt. He wanted to get out on a river so plans were hatched for the lower Salmon. Unfortunately, fire nixed that idea so we settled on the lower Klamath in far Northern California. We ended up doing about 65 river miles over three days from 30 something miles above Happy Camp down to the Green Riffle takeout. The water was low and the weather was hot so pools were trying at times but there was enough class II and III to keep life interesting. Good peaceful evening camps and lots of wildlife also didn't hurt.

"Great barbecue makes you want to slap your granny up the side of her head." - Southern Saying
Love this spot… had it all to myself this morning and surfed for 40 minutes straight until my feet fell asleep. A friend showed up and snapped a pic while driving by. I eddied out, had a quick visit, and then back out for another 20 minute ride. Stoked

Another great day… this time with a friend and a solid wave shoulder to drive off
Mind sharing the location so I can dweeb out on maps? PM ok if you dont want it in the open.
Not sure where to put this, but yesterday, in between Bay Area storms, the numbers looked right for paddling San Jose CA's Guadalupe River, class 1-2 (more like 2-1, as the rockin' wave action was all early on).
I don't think this one gets floated that often. Though apparently some people go and surf the small concrete ledge that's in the entry to the 880 overpass (didn't see anyone when I splashed over it). The mid-section of the run, the few miles after passing the San Jose airport, had a lot of brush garden hassles and subsequent portages. Most of it was fun though.
That's I-280 in the top photo, along with its interchange with Hwy 87 which the river parallels much of the way. The vid was a bit further along, near downtown SJ.
Sick! What kind of flows did you have!?
