I just jumped on that deal. Been eyeing that phone for a little while. Still have a perfectly decent N5 that's a little over a year old. The screen is all scratched up at this point. Guess it's turning to back up status.

Never realized that Moto Maker was going to be that freaking hard to decide on...

Looking forward to having a new toy.

Seems I finally have to buy my own phone (I'm no longer under contract w/old employer.) Have had an iPhone 5 for the last 2 years but fuck Apple.

Wife's company is with Verizon - definitely want a phone with microSD slot for storing music, pix, and vids. Currently thinking of getting a Galaxy S5 and rooting it to install a custom ROM to get rid of the bloatware. Any thoughts?

BTW - I'd love the Droid Turbo for features and battery life but it won't let you expand the memory, afaik.

The LG G3 I bought a few weeks ago continues to shine. The G3 Tweaks app (requires root) is good. There are a couple of 5.0 ROM's out there - haven't tried any yet as the base build is pretty slick once you get the bullshit uninstalled. Has 32gb internal and MSD up to 128gb. Records and plays QHD. Got it for $500. Would recommend.

Nice. Thanks. G3 is def. on short list. I do kinda like the Samsung's water resistance and dustproofness tho. Also heard that the battery life on the G3 is shortened by that ridiculously high rez screen - any observations?

Piggybacking on this thread - what's the best Verizon phone, non-rooted? I would like to not void the warranty. AFAIK the Nexus and OnePlusOne aren't available for Verizon so I know I will need to live with bloatware.

I would like lots of memory (internal and SD) and a powerful processor. Not gigantic would also be good. Tired of my slow as shit old phone, want something that will be reliably fast for the next 2 year contract period.

Can't you just undo the root if you need to have any warranty done?

Honestly, I have no idea. I assumed not. But if it's possible to undo a root, I would be stoked about that.

Sometimes. But depending on the phone rooting and ROMing may trip the Knox counter in which case there's not a whole lot you can do should the folks processing your warranty choose to check it.

I swim with my S4 Active all the time. Love the phone, hate the bullshit software. Make sure whatever you do, don't get a niche phone. The S4 active was a "special" phone so aftermarket people don't gave a fuck about it. Got rooted but updated and now I'm fucked. Stuck with this bullshit, towelroot won't even work anymore.

As far as I say "fuck apple"... I'm beginning to see why people say "fuck android." The grass isn't greener, it's just a different shade of shit.

G3 battery life has actually been great so far, although I use it mostly for work and don't do a lot of screen intensive stuff. But normal email, internet, some youtube, I have 50+% battery left at 10pm. Way better than my HTC One M7.

Fully unrooting depends on the phone and the boot loader. On the HTC M7, you could fully unroot of you could get the loader security turned off, which depended on which version of the loader you had on the phone. With the G3, you can unroot, depending on your carrier. I can unroot my AT&T G3. Rooting will disable OTA updates on most carriers.

Fuck android? That sort of foot stamping whiny bullshit is why people like you are better off staying with Apple. You can totally root your S4 Active, if you're willing to work it out yourself. Why would you expect other people to offer a lot of free support for a device that nobody bought? How much money did you send to geohot? Maybe send him a few hundo and he'll work out your root issue for you.

Take a serious look at the Moto X. Not the fastest processor speedwise, but my last gen doesn't hangup at all (release date was 18 months ago). The 2nd gen is faster. Moto is running close to vanilla Android, so the OS isn't annoying and their proprietary apps are actually genuinely useful.

Moto's wireless radios are still the best in the business too, so you're more likely to get service from a given spot in the mountains.

X2 on g3. I'm liking mine a lot, coming from a razor maxx . battery life is great for standby and decent otherwise and I actually like the hi res screen. I turned brightness to 50%and that helps with battery a lot. One issue I haven't worked out yet is foxfi seems to set off a security flag and "secure" sites like Google will not work with it. I reset the phone and it works fine without foxfi. Waiting for a fix or something

Moto X developer edition would be a good choice. Stock Android with a couple useful offerings from Motorola. If you decide you want to root, it's allowed without warranty issues, and you're still entitled to updates, for which Motorola still has first dibs after Nexus devices. Not sure if you can get the Dev edition from a major carrier.
Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

    Double phone fuck last week.

Work iPhone 4 was steamrolled by a forklift. Replacement 5s on the way.

Personal galaxy S4 was stolen. Using my old galaxy S2 for the time being. Only problem with the S2 is the battery life.

Should I wait for the S6 or grab an S5?

Most of the time, not always. Depends on the rooting method needed. Some will do a backup of the factory build (later OTA updates many times breaks the root super user) and then once rooted lock out the OTA update function, if capable go and factory restore and do the restore - but your data needs backed up also before this.

Almost. The Z3 was my first choice, but lack of US warranty coverage for LTE phones was a deal breaker for me. Awesome looking phone.

Almost... I have the Z1 compact (iPhone size screen, I need my phone to fit in my pocket) , previous year model, but very close. Great phone. Nicely built, good screen, good battery life, lots of memory, fast processor, good camera, not too much proprietary apps and waterproof and dust proof.... Love it.

Coming up on a 2 year renewal with Verizon. I hate paying for phones. Out of these, which should I pick?

HTC One (M8) (leaning this way due to size)
    Samsung S4 Mini
Apple iphone 5c (currently have iphone 3g)
    Droid Maxx

I prefer smaller phones. I don't need a tablet in my pocket.
