Fucking dropped my iPhone 5 in a tidal pool pointing out a tiny crab to my 3yo niece. Tried flushing it with tap water and drying it out in a sealed bag w/rice in sunshine. Nope.

Ah well - at least I didn't pay for it and will get another on Tuesday.

People who relentlessly discuss and fetishize phones are insufferable.

Pretty much done with anything iPhone at this point. My 4s has had nothing but problems from the time I got it. Music never synced properly, screen goes black during phone calls (can't use keyboard or even hang up), have been using that stupid assistive touch for last couple months since my lock button randomly decided to stop working, and it freezes like no other.

All that shit and I've never dropped it without the stupidly massive case I have for it, cosmetically it looks brand new.

Thank god my plan is up in June.

My brother showed me a really nice phone the other day, Samsung Note 3. Kind of big but just what my aging eyes need.

Some of the new Motorolas are really nice. They are, or at least were, kinda splash resistant. Also Gorilla Glass.
    S4 mini looks good too.
    Or get a giant phone.

A bit late to he party but.

I have Verizon as my carrier and am sick of their pricing.

Anybody have any experience with Straight Talk?

I hear it works well. Verizon cell towers, I think.
If you already have your own Verizon phone, it's a damn good deal. Few others out there too that you can use a Verizon phone with. I wanna say Nationwide, but that might just be the retail around here.

First time I heard the word "hinky" was when an Oregon cop pulled over the car I was in, a red rustbucket 62 Ford Astro Galaxy called "Rastro".

I have a galaxy S3 with verizon. They tell me it is an international phone and will work with the GSM carriers also. I'm looking into switching to AIOWireless.com (AT&T towers)

Due for a new phone (Sprint, Android).

Is the Galaxy S5 the cream of the crop these days? I've been on HTC phones the last 4 years, but if the S5 is the clear #1...

    I just replaced my S3 with a 5.

It seems a solid improvement so far.

Ditto. Lost my S3 so got an S5 with a Lifeproof case, finally got the waterproof setup I wanted and the phone is good. The autocorrect is terrible is about the worst thing. Battery life is way better than the S3 and the Ultra Power Saver setting (or whatever it's called, something like that) really works.

I am a big fan of the Moto G. Under $200 and no contract. I am so sick of contracts and expensive phones. $200 bucks and it is disposable. I used a gen 1, 16GB 3G Euro model in Germany and the UK this spring and loved it. They just released a new version with a bigger screen and an SD slot. No LTE but I don't need that. I don't stream when I am on my data plan and Google maps refreshes just fine for me even on 3G. Of course where I live and play the best tower coverage is AT&T. So GSM phones are what I am after.

2nded. I'm a big fan of my Moto X. Danno, check out the new Moto X that just came out. Moto has better reception than anybody else on the market. And, I mean, it's a phone first, right? Here's the ARS Technica review: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/...true-flagship/

If only the Moto X+1 was $350-$450 depending on options. However that means good deals on the old Moto X which is a nice phone. But, Danno wants a phone for Sprint and I have no idea what's compatible with Sprint for unlocked phones, if any.

I just did the same thing too. Definitely an improvement all around, but not leaps and bounds ahead like the S3 was over the old phone I had before it - an HTC Incredible (first gen version).

    Also highly recommend SwiftKey.

The whole android thing kills me. I'd love to get away from my iPhone 4 but I hate having to spend 2-3 days tweaking the settings and rooting the fucking thing just to install a vanilla android ROM without the touchwhiz or whatever the manufacturer fucked up the OS with. Plus my car stereo connects and controls my iPhone and iPod. Maybe I'll get a windows phone next. HA

That's why I went with the Moto X. Freaking great phone in so many ways. No manufacturer's custom interfaces here!
