bobbyS with the solution to a problem that is quite typical.

typically an employer can request a drug screening anytime they want unless your contract reads otherwise.
job candidates are even more likely to be searched after the pre-employment interview but before actual hire.

They would have notified you already.
The ad would say something like "We are a drug free workplace or something."
Or it would have been listed as a requirement for the position.
    No longer stuck.

Lies. To reiterate, I've only had two drug tests:

The office I am sitting in today asked me to take a test the week I started, 2 weeks after signing a contract.

A gas station I once worked at had me take a test on my 2nd day on the job.

    All these threads are amazing.

Flyandski I hope you're clean. Applying for 'real type' jobs where there's a reasonable expectation of pre-employment screening when you're not is just plain stupid.

This isn't that hard folks. In the job market? Don't smoke up until you're secure in your new position. Is it really worth blowing good opportunities and possibly hampering your hire-ability across your field for the future?

I hear ya, and agree. I was expecting to be guiding again this summer. This opportunity came out of thin air a few weeks ago and I couldn't pass up applying for it - only a handful of jobs like it in the country.

Is it really that hard to quit smoking while you are looking for work?

Unemployed stoners. Hmmm, and they wonder why they stay unemployed.

Are you sure you're not baked right now? Read my post above, champ.

Obviously I would not continue to smoke while applying for the job, I'm just a little concerned about the timing and wanted to know people's experiences regarding when I would know whether I need to be worried or not. Believe it or not, not everyone is as stupid as you seem to assume they are.

Second interview went really well. They had me give a mock presentation which I crushed, then a bunch of situational questions that I think I handled pretty well. After the formal part they showed me around and we chatted about the position for a while. Got a good feeling, and still no mention of piss test.

They're supposed to let me know today if I got the job.

Bingo! Got the call today. Read the offer letter, mentions a background check but that's it. Playing it safe anyway. Start in 2 weeks.

Thanks for the replies and well wishes.
