    Kayaks in surf?

I'm going to Oman in April for 6 months and I know there's not much in the way of rivers and may be too Hot to go mtn biking , so i was wondering about taking my river/play boat to use in the ocean. Good idea??? I know sea kayaks are a very different beast but for short tours and playing in surf would a Riot booster work OK.

I use my XXX for shorebreaks in Maine when I want a break from boardsurfing. A great way to stay cool and cross-train those paddle muscles. Not sure if Oman gets much swell, but it doesn't take much of a wave to get planing.

    Angry Sure

I think a booster would be great. The extra lendgth will be good for touring around and the hard edges wold help you stay up on the wave so that you actually surf down the line. What are you doing in Oman? Is there surf there. Have fun, soup

Thanks for the opinion on the booster. Going there for work on a heavy oil project. I'm pretty sure there is some surf as when I did a search found some trip reports from people fromm the Gulf going to Oman to surf. Supposed to be very good diving.

Not really much of a surfer... But.

I've done a reasonable amount of sea kayaking and have had great fun on a couple occasions catching the large swells that occasionally almost parallel the shoreline in my dagger magellan. makes for covering serious distance at high speeds.

My boss loves his surf kayak and passes up almost no opportunity to use it.

When I lived in South Carolina, we used to use play boats at the beach all the time. A mistake can be unforgiving, but it's fun. Turns out, the really big swell days weren't that good because it was too hard to get out-- you can't dive under the break. Are you going to dive, too?
    It's idomatic, beatch.

I haven't given that too much thought yet. There is supposed to be great diving in Oman.
