    U.S.V.I. Advice, recs?

Yo! I'm in st Thomas son! It smells like weed as we drive up to my in laws place. My gut tells me not to knock on the doors there. Where do I score some bud, and what else should I do here (although I'm mostly here to sit on a recliner in Magen's bay)? I'm on a ferry to jost van dyke to go to foxys right now. Just chillin, but is there something I can't miss? TIA.

It is, but BVI > USVI imo. Virgin Gorda is the tits. The Sand Box on Prickly Pear is one of my favorite beach bars ever. Good food & drink available @ BEYC or in Spanishtown on the southern end of the island. A few years ago we were in Spanishtown & I left the Mrs at the B&T while I ran out to grab some batteries. When I came back, she was chatting up an older black man. Nice guy, that Morgan Freeman was. There is a pretty good resturant on the water in Mahone Bay that's pretty much off of the tourist radar (not that VG is very touristy) but the name is currently escaping me.

And yes, the snorkeling at the Baths is pretty unbelievable.

No good advice for the OP re: scoring weed, but my usual 'trick' is to just be cool and chat up some locals. Once you're chatting it up, ask if they can help you grab some weed. It's not very difficult

+1 for st. john, though my only expereinces there are with Caneel Bay. Do some of the one tank walk-in dives if you arn't certified, will be best $ you spend.

Reef Bay is sweet. Stayed here when I was down there some years back. There's a place in Cruz Bay that does really good all you can eat shrimp one night during the week.

Don't remember what island it's on, but the Soggy Dollar is a fun place to stop by at least once.

Thanks ameegs. I was at the soggy dollar on jost van dyke all day today. Cruzin to st John tomorrow. Good to know about the snorkeling. Lil trick about that; if you bring tortillas in a zip lock and open it under water, all the fish come a runnin. Very cool.

And dang vinz! That looks like Seychelles. Not that I've been there, but from the pics I've seen.

    I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead;
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said.

I'm in St. John for the week!. been coming here for a decade.
Scuba here is great, you can get in a couple dives in the morning or afternoon with Low key Dive in cruz bay. great snorkeling at many of the beaches. some great beaches here....all the famous ones are on the west side of the island (Ie. busy, but beautiful) Check the wind and swells because yesterday it was alot calmer on the eastside.

Coral bay on the east end is 30 minutes from cruz bay and more of a locals scene with burly, hard living, local fishermen sporting sweet beards and ponytails. check out skinny legs for a good burger and strong drinks.

cruz bay: check out warf village, and the 'beach bar' next door, locals seem to love woody's seafood shack up the street as well. I usually have no problem scoring weed in the evening, just hit up a local milling about, that's why they are usually there.

The bathes Virgin Gorda were awesome, but a trip tpo get to, love pain killers at the soggy dollar.

There has been a Hudge Manta Ray visiting Francis bay

PPG... we're headed to St. J on Friday for 10 days... We're out by Francis Bay overlooking Waterlemon Cay. Where are you staying? Incoming PM.

Goroo... here's a thread on St John: http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...oke?highlight=

Snorkeling recs: Waterlemon Cay, Francis Bay (to the right side), & Lampshur Bay (isolated and clear water). Coral Bay has some cool spots, but you need a boat. Dining recs: Lucy's and Skinny Legs by Coral Bay (Donkey Diner has good pizza and BBQ). In Cruz Bay, Asolar is great high end overlooking Cruz Bay, Zozo's great sunset cocktails, Uncle Joes great BBQ in town. Rum Lines is also decent. For hiking, Reef Bay trail is cool, but you usually need reservations. Cinnamon Bay has windsurfer and sup rentals...

we spent an afternoon swimming with the manta ray at Francis bay. I've been diving and snorkeling here for several years now and it was still one of the coolest things I have seen. The thing is so docile it will swim right at you and pass within a foot of you.

Grabbed a couple drink at Joe's rum hut at cruz bay after Francis, forgot how delicious those pizzas are after a day of swimming.

Dont forget to pick up a couple sixers of Virgin island beer, the summer ale is good and the Mango ale is a classic

    mmmmm.... Virgin Island beer:

Can't wait to see the Manta Ray. Never seen one and we spend about 8 hours a day in the water... will be bringing an underwater camera so the hunt is on!

Drunk Bay is pretty cool. Lots of "coral people". Salt Pond Bay is also good snorkeling, though it seems to have less life than years before:

Francis Bay on a crowded day:

    Sup'n on Cinnamon Bay:

Will, you'll appreciate the quiet once you have kids, but understand... would not want to be a teenager/young adult unless we were sailing island to island. (Then at least, you're always hopeful to meet new hotties on shore.)

Thanks for reminding me... packing now. The afternoon no-see-ums can be fierce. (Funny thing, they leave my father and my wife alone.) I always come down and stake a spot around 8am, so we have a good shady spot for the day. I hadn't thought about the Manta Ray being a big draw, but that makes sense. Parking's probably a zoo.

I lived there almost 10 years back in the baad old days when anything went. anyting mon.

Last job was chef at Piccola marina Cafe, on the dock in red hook. Had a house looking over the Yatch club. Ran boats at night from the backyard to not too far offshorse and back...

Miss the clear water, the girls back in the late 70's and 80's, Carnivale, Pate's, catching huge Jacks on a flyrod before it was cool, windsurfing from St, thomas to Caneel to drink at the bar... Doing acid in the baths... Lots of stuff can't mention.

    Have fun!

Ppg, I'm here til Monday the 16th. Probably not coming back to st John, but no worries. If you're all booked up I don't want to impose or anything. I'll pm you my number though and we can just text when either of us are in red hook. It's about a 20 minute drive for us to get there as my in laws place is a ways up the hill. Going to play golf today and family shopping later (my in laws want to get us some sort of house warming gift, as if staying with them here wasn't enough).
If it works out, awesome, but if not no biggie.
