    Explosiv's...heard the rants but got some ?'s

    I'm a new guy here so let the shit fly with this question....

    I'm 23, 6'1", 225lbs, a former racer that has turned a freeride/powder/steeps junkie. I now live in NE but I'm hoping to move to UT next season. I leave for Alta on the 11th and need to make a quick decison. I've heard nothing but great rants and raves about the Explosiv's and I'm gonna purchase some. I'm a speed freak (what else can you do on eastcoast bulletproof) wondering what length to get these in. My gut tells me that the 190 is the ski, but I guess I'm just a sally that could use some input from those in the know. 190...180...am I just being a bitch and should go for the 190's??

    This ski will be used out west (Alta, the bird) and also here on the East Coast for BC duty (Tucks, Slides, etc...). I've read every damn post I could search regarding the skis. I'm not too worried about them on hardpack/ice days as I've got my Fischer GS'ers for that stuff.

    Thanks for any input and let the abuse for the new guy begin

    I was just in the same situation and just pulled the trigger on a new pair of Explosivs. So, let me ask the next qstn. for you. Does anybody have suggestions regarding what to mount on them? Interface? Binding position?

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the quick replies....

    I work at a mountain here in NH and I need to tell my boss my final decison asap so that his hookup (rep) can get them to me in time for utah.

    As for what I'm going to mount them with, it's likely I'll be getting some Marker comp 18 or comp 14's (what my rep can kill the price on).

    Downside-comp 18s are heavy as all hell, but din through the roof. Heavy ski, heavy binding, heavy trekkers, heavy skier = tired me.

    I'm just not sure I'm ready to jump the gun into some AT bindings, plus I really need some more din than most of them offer.

    <obligatory anti-marker comment>

    Wouldn't any others companies 12 din be equal to Markers 18, anyway.

    I'm 5'11" 235 and am presently on 180's they're not a bad ski since I spend pretty much all my time out here on the EC. I'd love to have a pair of 190's for going straight and better float in the deep stuff, but since I like short turns and trees and we see maybe one day a year where we see over 12" of snow 180 is a better length for the type of terrain that I see most. But I'd definately go to the 190 if you were planning on spending ANY time out west
    For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

    Ok, so to be quite honest I just wanted to use the (hadn't pulled one in a while) and really noone should be forced to suffer a fate such as this (kids, friends don't let friends move to Lincoln Nebraska). and now more random smilies

    If you want Explosives, this is their last year, they are being replaced by a ski called the Mantra next season.
    Always charging it in honor of Flyin' Ryan Hawks.
