192 is what you should go with. I am 5'11 185 and I wish I had more ski for when it gets gnarly. Im guessing youre from Jackson, so take the bigger ski

Thought I'd bring this old thread up from the bowels instead of starting anew. Curious to if anybody else has had some time on the 192's?
My question is this, after searching through every review there is, I'm curious to if the 192 is indeed stiffer than the 185. I've heard they are, and then I've heard not. Anybody have a chance to ski or hand fuck the 185 AND the 192 and feel a difference in stiffness? I've heard great things about the Opus and am thinking about getting the 192.
this sounds pretty definitive. I'm also struggling with the decision between the two sizes.

Hey Jason – this is probably the most asked question on BLISTER these days, so we went right to the source: the guy who created the flex of the 192 Opus, LINE Skis engineer, Jed Yeiser. This is what Jed had to say:
“When we started talking to Pollard about moving the Opus up into a 192 size, we spent a bunch of time discussing if we wanted to beef the ski up a bit. A lot of work went into getting that pattern just so, but we figured that it would be the bigger guys on the 192, and they’d probably want something a bit stiffer. Pollard agreed, and after a few days of banging my head against walls, I got a profile that was stiffer than the 185, but matched the stiffness profile of the 185 perfectly (think of a graph of % overall stiffness vs. % length). So yes, the 192 Opus is stiffer than the 185.”
Obviously, Jed doesn’t attempt to quantify here exactly “how much” stiffer the 192 is than the 185, but stiffer, Yes.
I own the 192 and it def is stiffer than the 185... The ski is fun as shit and honestly it has to be one of the most fun skis I have been on when in the trees... Not demanding at all, floats like a champ, slashy and even gets it done on the zoomers...
Thanks AVskier for that link and undertow for your input. That's all I needed to hear. I've still own the S7 with newer Fritschi Pros (thanks Poster Nutbag!) that I'm keeping for dedicated slackcountry and have owned JJ's and Chet, just wanting something for everyday that's playful yet not a noodle. Plus I've never owned a Line ski so what the hell. Next year finally man up, join the today crowd and throw down some cabbage on DPS with Dynas and tech boots for longer trips.
Sounds like the 192 is going to be awesome! Come on MasterCard, let's see what damage we can do!
I put some time in on the 192 opus and I don't think its the ski for me. I'm about 6' and 150 lb. Got to ski them in dense and blower pow, pow over bumps, tracked pow and groomers and they generally just feel like too much work to ski. I have trouble keeping the tips on top of the snow in denser stuff and it just seems like there is just too much ski to get them to turn. They didn't want to plane in crud either and certainly didn't feel very playful. Now the question is will the 185 solve these problems for me? It seems like a softer flex could be the answer.
I have skied the 185 opus not the 192 and walked away thinking " whats all the hype about" I loved the EP Pro, put over 100 days on them over 2 seasons with the only short coming being heavy crud, where they folded. The Opus never addressed the problem in chop/crud, float is only O.K., not as playful, I found it hookey in crud and windblown crust.
If you are having problems with crud with the 192, it will only get worse with the 185 since it's softer. Both the Bentchetler and JJ are much better powder/ crud skis, both float better, JJ's are more playful and better on groomers. Now if armada would only do something about that paper thin base. Maybe try the 195 JJ AK, super quick playful ski for it's size, charges through sierra cement pretty good.
