I worked with Burt in 07/08 at Spanish Peaks during the start of the financial crisis. Great guy, and some great stories. He inherited the job during the chaos and had a lot of poise.

Hahahaha I hope my "cornhole air" at the end was a crowd pleaser! Kinda wish I'd done one lap of inspection, but whatever. The spirit of Freeride is making it up as you go! Did your kids compete?

That old headwaters chairlift has brought a lot of people to the goods over the years. I was checking out the old Kirkwood maps. Cornice chair looked awesome.

“steep groomers, straightlines in the fingers, 100 footers like Big Jims, wide open bowls, classic California moguls, to impeccable storm tree skiing.”

Now doing retirement duty on the headwaters.

You stomped that shipwreck air Gnar! Figured I should move to the other side for better filming after I couldn’t see the bottom 1/2 of your run. That’s a super fun venue-you could tell the Big Sky kids knew it well. They were sending. One of them threw two huge threes-one off shipwreck and the other coming cross court out of double trouble.

My boys both qualified for finals today - so it was a good weekend for the fellas!

Burt hired me and another guy to build the ski patrol from scratch. He could have just hired one or the other of us but he saw the reasoning behind hiring 2 experienced people. For his age he had more energy than most GMs and was never afraid to get out there and get dirty. He got caught up in the family politics of the Ennis Mafia and treated poorly in the end. I have only positive things to say about him and my time working for him. He is still around, working for a builder (THB) mainly in the Jackson area.

    Making it look easy Gnar.

@ YM: 6-Shooter was sent East to Sugarloaf. I was surprised at the move to upgrade but it was badly needed and was triggered (probably) by all the investment in the O&O, much more to come. I have noticed a little more love being shown for the Dark Side this year by Boyne but I don't think they are footing the bill.

Good luck to the Groms today Shreadeagle, visibility may be a big factor today.

Watched many a comp on Obsidian when my buddy's kid was on the freeride team. It's a blast. And as you'd expect, those airs look a helluva lot bigger when you stand atop them than they do from the bottom of the slope. Have a great day Shredeagle and good luck to the groms.

And Bunion, thanks for the Moonlight info.

Nice Schralp! I find it so hard to keep track of what comps are when. Do they have masters classes at any of these things or do they not even want dads or near-dads doing this kinda shit anymore lol?

You near dad age or near dad status?

Our only shot at glory as NADA Sessions. Usually goes down around 4/20. There's a collegiate freeride series event at Big Sky on April 5th. Should be a fun watch and an opportunity to volunteer.

Thanks for the well wishes. Little one ended up pretty sick and stayed home. That was a bummer cause he’s like the mini guy in his division and was super stoked to make finals. Fuel for next years fire. My older one had a great run and ended up sixth. Bridger boys put on a good show today!! Big sky fellas put on quite a clinic though on their home court. Super fun comp. Top 12 or so boys were all going for it. Here’s my kids run

Good luck on the Dad stuff WRG. That’s the best thing I ever did was to take that ride.

Sick skiing on chally and headwaters too. Got to do a few of my favorite runs on either side of the BRT spine in perfect high speed pow and a couple of deep headwaters too. So the old man was happy as well.

I wanted to do a freeride comp this year too. Bridger gully would be one you can do I bet. Seems like there would be enough of us for a masters beer league of some sort. At least Bridger Ortho would probably sponsor us.

I could be talked into joining an old man division in the bgully freeride, I usually volunteer as a ski chaser but I always end up wishing I was competing. Also, Charlie's ripping these days, he's come a long way from when I was chasing him around a few seasons ago. So cool to see how he has progressed.

Thanks man!! This was the first time in a few that he put together a full comp without crashing. He was mega stoked. That was a fun day we had w the kids and Simon - that was their first day ever really cliff jumping. Maybe my last day-haha. I’m unfortunately traveling out of town for the bgully freeride this year but would be stoked to enter an old man division in the future. That seems more fun than getting destroyed by teenagers.

Good sliding today, bad driving but at least "most" people were willing to drive slow. Those that weren't ended up in the ditch.

I'd be down for a Master's league. What age would it start? Forty or Fifty? I'm fifty next year.

anyway, just want to put it here to show there is interest. IFSA had one back in the day. I competed at age 42 at the Hakuba 2* debut out of mere principal and got a "Thanks to the older guys for taking it easy and staying safe." haha. there were like five or six of us over forty, so we bonded quite well and had a great time not having any expectations of actually beating the yougins.... just playing. Would be super cool to see a father/kid team.

Sorry. Quote function is broken, didn't mean to interrupt the thread.

Of course, the forecast contained the dreaded Winter Storm Warning words
