chuganese race today. last tram
lost trail and discovery are both well worth stops.
maverick is also worth it but mostly for the novelty. portal straight back to 1970. cheap as fuck. great food. truly immaculate vibes. thursday-sunday only.
swing your fucking sword.
Saw the Chuganese crowd at the top of Liberty at the end of the day. Pretty sure I could have won but wanted to ski Marx one last time. Upper 2/3 was the best chalk I've skied in a while.
Saw some dude with his snowboard off walking down into the cirque. No avy pack, just going for it solo. Hope he's not still back there.![]()
Garage renovation I did recently with a buddy at a house downtown if anyone is looking to have some work done. Good winter project. We stripped it down, insulated and put all new wood up.

Going to add lost trail, discovery, turner, and more to the list. Now I need to do some digging into hot springs off the beaten track. Anybody have a strong opinion if GTNP or Yellowstone would be worth my time for XC style touring on my way to UT? Will probably ski glacier again. Ran into more wildlife than people (wolves and a wolverine) last time I skied there.
A Maverick Mountain/Elkhorn Hot Springs trip is about as classic MT as it gets.
whoever is dancing keep it up
Jesus, I thought the ridge lines were boney here

^^^ Your vision gets skewed the longer you ski BS. Above image is looking FAT for January. Hey it's only half rocks!
Right now Big Sky is an odd mix of good coverage and bony af. South Face is great. Big Couloir looks like it's fucking July. Lots of wind fuckery. Need a major reset.
Anyone get up top today? Wondering if the south face is locked up...
Also curious. Yesterday was getting hard everywhere. Even over on the dark side. I'd imagine it will take at least 6-8"+ to get it worth skiing again. A few inches tonight will just make it kinda fucked up.
Yesterday was still decent chalk on Marx but the Lone Peak veterans I was skiing with all agreed that the next couple days of graybird would be a good time to get some work done.
But you just never know.
Pretty fun chalk skiing yesterday at big sky I thought on the north side. Bunion, where is the Headwaters lift from originally? Was it bought from a different ski hill or did it come from a different part of the mountain?

The original bones came from Kirkwood. The lift was entirely rebuilt by Joe Gmuender and Moonlinght Lift Maint. prior to installation. Former Cornice Chief Chair.
OTOH this looks decent: https://a.atmos.washington.edu/mm5rt...45.79N,111.15W

I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Thanks. Such a cool lift. Makes me feel like I’m on some wild mountainside is Kosovo or something.
Forecast is looking good!!

Heh. Well put.some wild mountainside is Kosovo or something.
What I would like to know is who designed the layout of the lifts at Moonlight?
^^^ Credit for the original layout goes to Burt Mills. Park City folks will remember him from his days at the Canyons, further back is the connection to American Skiing and Les Otten. He has built and then moved more lifts than most ski area mangers would dare.
And keep in mind that, "all this is temporary and we can just sell a few lots when we want to build the real final layout". That was in 2004/05 after we started building the Lone Tree lift. There was a time where the Moonlight owners and management really thought that Y/C would end up owning Big Sky and they (Blixseth) were someone Moonlight could work with. They were sort of right.

Good windblown skiing on the north side. I foreran the junior freeride comp on Obsidian and didn't make a total fool of myself! Lower half of the headwaters was smooooooth.

I wonder if they considered keeping Six Shooter in place and running the Madison 8 lift from the base to the top of Lone Tree. This would have given them some redundancy at Moonlight in the event that one or the other lift breaks down, and also made it easier access more of the Moonlight terrain with one lift ride instead of two. Maybe Six Shooter was not worth keeping, I dunno. But when Madison 8 stopped working a couple weeks ago it was a cluster to have all those stranded people loading into vans for a ride back to Big Sky, same as when Six Shooter used to break down.
