Yup..Swimmy's got the eye!! I remember reading an article way back when about the keys to great ski photography. I think the first was, hang with expert skiers.

    Yeah, that helps

Also helps if you can see. Dense fog most of the morning made for really tough viz. 2, maybe three chairs?

Made for some defensive skiing...and tough pic taking. Snow was good though.

I did take a little time on the commute to grab some river pics. One on the way down.

And one on the way home

Expert or not, there's a huge difference between shooting amateur skiers (most of us) and true professionals. The former is a LOT harder!

Storm Castle's so stunning — and that canyon is so pretty. I often thing of stopping to make an image but rarely do.

Saw this guy in the Canyon earlier today:

    100%.

Shooting in the resort also poses its own set of challenges. Conditions are very seldom ideal and most days I'm shooting randoms that can't make "the turn." And if they are good skiers a lot of times they hit the wrong spot as they are just skiing and have no idea what I'm looking for.

But I really enjoy the challenge and it makes it all the more satisfying when things come together and you get a decent shot.

This question will be very unlike me but it was a request from my sister who is visiting from Connecticut. What are the go to spots for apres in big sky? It has never really struck me as a place with much to do other than skiing.

If she wants apres, she really should get her ass to Aspen. That place is RIDICULOUS with the afternoon party scene...

I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Probably just the Carabiner in the Summit or the Vista lounge in the main lodge. Not much hoity toity up there tbh.

Actually if Everett's 8800 is open (top of Ramcharger lift) she can go there and spend $20 on a beer. Supposedly they serve dinner till 9 pm. That will seem hoity toity. Never been in the place but it looks nice from the outside.

She might like the Dinner Yurt too if she wants to spend $$$.

Other end of the spectrum is Tips Up in the meadow if she wants to meet the locals.

I have not been to LMR in years but I have heard the Horn and Cantle is nice.

She’s hoity toity but likes a good party. Think yacht club on Nantucket except a hurricane came in and everyone is wasted and pouring giant bottles of champagne everywhere

If super high end for BS is what is required, Bunion is spot on with Horn & Cantle. It is $$$$ but nice.

Super local is grabbing a tall boy from the Hungry Moose and sipping it in the parking lot. I am not sure how they do it at Zermatt.

I actually really like eating in the bar at the Horn & Cantle. Friend of mine plays music there regularly so I go hang out sometimes. Good food. I've never eaten in the main restaurant, that is definitely spendy, but the bar options are pretty reasonable.

I'm aware of the challenges you face and LOVE seeing what you produce within those constraints. So good when it all comes together.

Thanks! I often drive via Ennis if it's not blowing snow but have driven the canyon many, many times. Usually things open up when I'm south of Big Sky, but yesterday a single truck went 35mph all the way to WYS with zero opportunity to pass given how things unfolded. ugh!

Hasn't been open as far as I'm aware. This is good news! Hope to ski it later this week, ULLR willing.
