I have an sth2 jig but no sth jig. Yeah, moving it forward a cm is simple but plugging 5 holes with golf tees on each heel piece sucks.
Edit. Ok, you fuckers guilted me into it. Currently plugging heel holes and moving the heel piece up a cm.
^ I wouldn't bother. If you put a boot in the binding and flex the ski in reverse a bit, is there still a gap under the screw head? There probably will be, which means you still have some forward pressure, even with the ski fully decambered.
in case you wana use those holes again when she gets bigger plastic plugs might be better,
that way you just pull the plugs out with a DW screw and reuse the holes with some slow set

Good thoughts, but I’m already done. Also she’s in college so her damn foot better not grow.
Anyway, forward pressure works with her 22.5s and there’s still enough range that they’ll work with my wife’s 23.5s.
I’m calling it a win.
Also I figured out a much faster/easier way to shear off golf tees. Razer window scraper and softly tap with hammer. Excellent. However, my life would be easier if I just remembered to buy some damn plastic plugs.
It was a dark and stormy night and I didnt wana go out, so I looked around & found a bag of bamboo BBQ skewers in the kitchen
BBQ skewers are > golf tees, the perfect size to epoxy into a hole

Maybe the wrong thread but here we go. Looking to get a 3rd mount on a pair of Billy Goats. Mount #1 Large Salomon Guardian at 310 bsl. Mount #2 Dynafit Beast 14 at 300 bsl. I’m tired of schlepping the weight around and am looking to mount a pair of alpine bindings on them at 301 bsl. Which alpine binding is going to be my best bet for a final mount? Looking for the least overlap and am not tied to any binding. Apologies if I’m in the wrong thread.

I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.
Beautiful shot.

Mounted all three pairs tonight.
Went -2 from infinity mark on Nexus 189, -1 on 183 Forma because not sure how I will like that radical progressive ski and -1 on 189 Vision 108 since I might go with shorter BSL when time comes to upgrade my touring boots.

It’s like how much more black could those skis be? And the answer is none - none more black.
Sexy setups.

MB 116c + CAST. New holes for the toes, reused existing holes for the heels.
I just inherited a new to me drill press, which slows down the process quite a bit, but was helpul for keeping the holes and threads vertical. If I was pressed for time, I might just drill and chamfer by hand and then tap with the press.

Agreed with this, but I'm not in a rush to mount skis usually and I don't have to mount more than a few pairs a season. Looks like waves is using a hand tap and using the drill press to keep it vertical, seems like a good move - I also tap by hand but use a tapping block / guide.
Tapping by hand was discussed ad nauseam 10/15 pages back. Seems like most tap by hand, some tap by hand drill (SFB), and a few never tap at all. Never tapping is much more common in the industry than I expected after discussing this subject with a couple friends in other shops.

If you're doing an insert install, using the drill press or block to keep the tap perpendicular is good, since you don't want the machine screws at an angle. I do the same when tapping for ski screws, but it's less critical because the ski materials have some give.
You might want to run the ski through a planer first... or not.

inserts are the only holes I tap. I never tap a straight binding mount hole. I just make sure the holes are clean and send it. I also only use waterproof wood glue on the first use of the holes. If I reuse then I will epoxy. Inserts you need to tap, I usually tap free hand unless I’m tapping some super nasty top sheet. Then I will use a jig to tap. I will also say the SVST tap is much better then a lot of other taps on the market. But the tap will still only last for about 10 mounts. I usually get 250-300 holes on a tap and replace it. Replacing the tap consistently seems to be the helper. One ski took me 20 minutes on the old tap, took maybe 5 minutes with a new one.
oh here’s a piece of advice, don’t ever use gorilla glue for holes. Ever. Never ever. That foaming action is not good. It expands. It will be ok on a straight mount because the glue can squeeze out some, but don’t be surprised when it leaves a bubble under the screw.
