Handy Tips: Removing stains from skiwear

I know most of you guys probably let stains pile up on top of stains, but I found this article in today's LA Times very helpful. Even I, the clean freak, didn't know these handy hints. Plus, it's always good to have a maggette around to help you guys look good for the ladies.

Alcoholic Beverages: Soak fresh stains in cold water and a few tablespoons of glycerin (available at drugstores) and then rinse with white vinegar and water.

Ballpoint ink: Apply hair spray and then rub with clean cloth.

Condiments (ketchup, mustard, etc): Sponge promptly with water and then apply liquid detergent to the stain and soak until removed.

Coffee and tea: rinse in cold water if the stain is fresh, and moisten with white vinegar. If the stain is not fresh, stretch the stained fabric over a bowl and fasten with a rubber band. Pour boiling water over the stain then sponge hydrogen peroxide mixed with water on the stain.

Heavy grease and road grime: Apply a solvent or a commercial waterless hand clean called "Goop". Rub gently.

To repair tears, mend zippers, snaps, buckles (also great for sleeping bags): Rainy Pass Repair company (authorized by Gore Tex) 888-RIP-STOP

Ok, super bump for this thread, but I'm wondering if "Goop", the recommendation for grease removal, is cool to use on GoreTex. All this warm weather has gotten shiv grease all over my coat.

My god man, how/where did you find this thread? But thanks for bumping because I had forgotten half of these tips.

Yes, you can use Goop on GoreTex.

For grease stains you can use very strong hold hair spray...

At one of the bike stores I used to work we had to wear cargos/khakies even working in the shop = dirty grease stains on pants.

Soak the stain with very strong hold hairspray before washing. Then wash normally. The grease came out every time. I recall Salon Selectives worked the best...

I'm not sure how this would affect the waterproofing/DWR/gore/event in ski wear.

Cut them off and bury under the nearest rock, along with your tigerstripe lycra tights.
That's how we dealt with it when a buddy took a 40 ft whipper, pulling two pieces of pro, and pedulumed into the inside os a dihedral. He broke a few things and shit himself so bad we had to cut everything off and wrap his manky ass in a fart sack for the carry out.

    Ah, the good old days.
