I settled it the old fashion way, bought the extinct 109s and the wayback 106! Just couldn’t shake intrigue at the wayback, but had to hoard the 109s. If the waybacks don’t work I’ll throw the alpinist on the 109s, if they do, I’ll save the 109 for the end of times.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

I used to ski the 2016 Automatics 109 and I recently upgraded to the 2019 117 backlands. I was back and forth between the 107 and the 117. Love the extra width for the days that deserve it. Just my 2 cents but I second the vote for the automatic 109s.

I'm chuckling at this old quote since I bought your Automatics and they have been my favorite resort pow ski by a long shot. I've tried to replace them with newer skis including the QST 118 and the Backland 117 but I keep going back to the old Automatics. I think it's the fairly short, not very stiff rockered tail (i.e. not a forward-mount ski) that still has a moderate amount of dampness in it that I like so much.

Backland 117: pretty good but I found the tail too stiff. Less playful and more limited is tight trees/deep snow.

Backland FR 109: I was pretty neutral on that ski. Too forward mount for my tastes and less damp than the Automatic.

If anyone else loved the original Automatic 117 and found a similar-ish successor, let me know what that is.

I have a pair of 2nd year Autos, 186, mounted with Wardens I'm looking to part with.

In all fairness, I probably should have been on the 193. I was so disappointed in how soft the tail was on that ski...just didn’t work for my style. Glad that they have turned out differently for you!

The weight, style and skill of the skier make a big difference - probably less in all cases for me! These things have seen so much pow over the years.... thanks again
