Boot Help: Wide Foot, Narrow Heel

Can someone recommend a boot that fits wide, like 104mm, but has a really narrow heel pocket? Scarpa Mobe has been the closest fit I have been able to try on but I feel like the heel has tons of room and I just can't imagine that even after 10 hours of boot fitting that the heel will hold me in. Factors were too narrow and the toe box was crammed. The boot fitter didn't seem to think any thing else would even come close to fitting aside from Scarpa.

I was in the market for an A/T boot that I could use in the resort, but at this point I would be happy with any boot that fits (currently in an Atomic M90 which is mediocre at best).

there are tons of threads on this issue I recall

Fit the heel and then blow out the toebox....otherwise you probably wont find a boot with the correct heel hold

I have a narrow heel and a 110mm forefoot per my bootfitter and I am in the Technica Inferno 130, which I should have no business being in with my foot. Two punches and it fits amazing
60% of the time, it works every time.

I did some searching but only found a couple older threads. I had my Atomics punched out last season but I don't feel that it helped much. I was not aware that they could be punched out again so that sounds appealing.

Do the Tecnica A/T boots have a narrow heel? I have not tried on any Tecnica boots before.

sounds like you need to find a better boot fitter?

the new technica shapes might work, or salomon quest, or lange blaster, or, or, or or

you, and just about everyone else, will need somekind of custom work done to make a boot fit right. As was said above, boots can be made bigger, not smaller. so get the heel pocket you need, and get someone to make the boot wider if as needed.
Also a boots last (95 = narrow, 100 = average, 104 = wide) is based on a size 26 boot, so a 100mm is average for that size, but VERY wide for a 22 foot, and really narrow for a 29 foot. this "average" changes 2-3mm per size up so a 24 average is width is 95 and a 30 is 110mm
also, differnt people like a boot to feel different, some like avery tight fit , and some people have claustrophobic toes.

Would it be fair to assume that the wider the last, the wider the heel?

I feel the titan and factor fit very similarly, but that the titan has a slightly more roomy toe box. Both have a nice tight heel pocket imo. So maybe try a titan, see if it works a little better, then get some custom fitting done as others have mentioned.

mntlion, I was under the impression from another fitter that 27 was the standard length shell for which "stated" last width applied. Wrong? (Has implications for my own boots, which is why I'm double checking.)

nope, head is one of if not the only brand that uses a 27 as a reference size

If you know a good bootfitter, they should be able to make a Lange RX (100mm) boot work for you. It has the same heel pocket as the 97mm last, and is fully mono-injected- meaning you can punch the boot for days.

must be, our head rep was in the other day and we were talking about the nexedge boot and he told me that they use a 27 for a reference size.

Maybe your toes felt crammed in the Factor because of its shitty liner. It's a pretty wide boot.
    No longer stuck.

I never tried the Dynafit because it supposedly wouldn't fit. I think I will go try a pair on and see what I am dealing with. Those would work great with the interchangeable soles too. Maybe I need to try sliding a different liner into the Factor too.

definitely try on the technica boots, not sure what flex you're looking for but the cochise (120) , bushwacker (110 airshell) and crossfire (100) could work out for you. again, find a good bootfitter that could punch out the toe box for you if they aren't wide enough. you may find a benefit from the airshell in the bushwacker.

The Cochise would fit my needs too, I think I will have to drive down the Boulder and go on a boot fitting spree, lol.

I have a 104mm foot with a whopping size 24.5 and fit into quadrants perfectly.

The trick,as Stuckathntrmntn said, is not to use the BD liners as they are unusable.
When I say unusable, I mean it.

For the Op, try the factors/quadrants without the bd liners, if possible get some intuitions just to check out the fit.
Your foot width is the same as mine, but your size is what, 27?
So factors/quadrants should definately fit your foot, as the 24.5 should be 3-4mm narrower than the size 27.

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

I ended up getting hooked up with some Garmonts that came with Intuitions from a fellow Maggot. I was hoping to use the Garmonts for every day use but I think the flex is a little lacking so I am going to keep those for backcountry days only. I pulled the Intuitions out of the Garmonts and put them in my Atomics and headed down to Larry's in Boulder. Heather helped me and did a top notch job. She molded the liners, punched the toe box even more, and helped my slight heel lift after molding. For the first time I feel like I have some boots that are going to work, should have purchased Intuitions 5 years ago. Thanks for all of the tips, this got me thinking about getting work done on the Atomics in the first place.

mntlion, what a great article and thanks for the tip. The Garmonts are the Adrenaline model from a few years back. Have you had any experience with swapping tongues and this boot?

some, might start with a 3 strap booster, and extra rear stiffener...
