Shells with fuller cuts than Arcteryx?

I NEED a new hard shell jacket and pants. Have tried on Arcteryx Sidewinder and Beta but to get the width I need in the shoulders and hips/thighs I need to go one size larger than I want. (don't want anybody to think I was one of those park and pipe dipshits!) I'm 5'11" and 215lb, 34" waist with big legs and wider than average in the shoulders. Can't seem to find shell that allows full range of motion without the gunny sack look. Do Trew, Flylow, Westcomb, Peak Performance.....meet this description? Dudes, don't let me look like a dipshit!

Hey Lord - I am in a similar situation - and happen to have an addiction to jackets. I am 6' 220# with broad shoulders and back as well. I wear an XL in almost everything.

Definitely get your hands on some Westcomb gear - they seem to have great fit and great quality - although sometimes hard to find. Also, check Norrona - especially if you are sold on Gore-Tex vs. eVent (I don't know why you would be though - eVent is awesome).

Admittedly I do end up with a few North Face jackets every now and then because of some fit issues I do have. If you can put the North Face brand image aside (as some people can't stand) they do make some really reasonably priced products that are high quality and good fit.

Hope that helps - let me know what you end up with.

I was sporting the Westcomb Mirage Hoody for a couple seasons (after wearing Arcteryx Beta AR) and it fit the bill for a more 'athletic' fit.

I ordered a Trew Powfunk off the Clymb last season and while i didn't keep it, it definitely had a more relaxed fit than either Arc/Westcomb, while being within my range of fitment (ie: not gangsta baggy).

Note on Westcomb: I paid far more for this jacket than I had for any other in the past and the eVent fabric delammed almost immediately and some design flaws with regard to the pocket zippers became apparent. I sent it back to them, via my retailer at Westcomb request, and am awaiting a decision on warranty. The jacket has approx 60days resort only riding on it.

Another for Westcomb; seems to be cut for a wider/short upper body.

If you really like Arc'teryx, check out their Sabre line. It's a roomier, ski jacket that supposed to made with a looser cut.

FlyLow will definitely be looser. Tried on a few of their jackets and loved it, but often felt it was a bit roomy for my 6'0", 185 lbs., 40 inch chest frame. So for you, it may be the middle ground to an athletic fit but not steeze-neezy, bro-brah, park stylee, skittle folk action.

I also tried on some of Patagonias shells last night. The Snowshot is big and roomy. The Medium felt like it would fit a Xerox machine. Same goes for their Powder Bowl shell, but less so.

Fly low jackets have a much fuller fit especially the Quantum jacket. The Stash pant is the most baggy of the pants.
Arc Teryx pants have different fit depending on the model If you look at the website they will say if they are relaxed fit or athletic fit. Relaxed is very loose.

    FWIW I rep for FlyLow

I just bought the arcteryx alpha sv shell , it has a full cut for a roomier shoulder. fits larger than the comparable beta. lots of room for layers.

Truth. Really nice cut with the flylow gear. Bomber material, good waterproof and breathability with hudge vents for dumping heat quickly, or for general cooling on the walk up.

My Westcomb Mirage has a somewhat athletic cut. It's got long arms, but the mid section is not what I would call full. Check out some of their free ride jackets, they still use eVent but are supposed to be cut a bit wider. And I think they use a thicker layer of eVent than the Mirage.

Correct on all accounts. Westcomb's freeride line, Vapor FX, is a more full cut than the Mirage, which is more alpine, and the fabric is 50% thicker. to the OP, if you go this route, opt for a medium in pants and a large in the jacket.

I have similar fit issues & have wasted lots of time looking for quality stuff that'll fit my wide shoulders + semi-round and mutant long torso....

    Consider:

TNF Summit Series - notably the Free Thinker or Enzo. Do not judge by the streetwear lines.

Norrona Lofoten or Narvik shells - but size up one size.

Armada 3 ply stuff (I forget the specific names).

FWIW, the Westcombs I tried on a couple years ago did not come close to coping with my shoulders.

flylow quantum shell is a sweet triple layer technical piece, but with a modern skiing cut to it, rather than the arcteryx beta's alpine cut.

    really really nice jacket.

I'm about the same size as you (6'1", 220lbs, 44Reg, 32" inseam) and the Norrona Lofoten fits me great but I prefer the Euro / slim look. Their Narvik line is a bit roomier (I just tried one on the other day). I LOVE Norrona gear but I believe it's difficult to find in North America.

check out the TNF enzo, i have not tried on the jacket but own the pants, they are the "free" fit which is between the cryptic park fit stuff and the typical TNF alpine type fit. 3l GTX pro, it's a really lightweight laminate, moreso than i've felt in other 3l proshell stuff, great fitting basically built with room for layering and such, and it's summit series so fully seam taped and all that good stuff. been on TNF stuff for a couple years and really like it a lot.

I'm 6'1", 195lbs with pretty broad shoulders. I picked up the Flylow Quantum shell last year in size large, and it's a great fit for me. Not overly baggy at the waist, and still has enough room to layer when I need to.

Also just grabbed this year's Patagucci Primo jacket in large. It seems to be a little slimmer cut in the shoulders / chest than the Quantum, but not by as much as you might expect. I think they revised the cut for this year's gore-tex model and made it a little more free-ridier than the last version.

Ok, now what size do I get in Flylow, Westcomb, Arc Sabre? Pants as well. Where I live there isn't much opportunity to try on anything other than faggy nordic skate ski gear. I need to have a little room to layer underneath.

    6'2'' 205 lbs, 36" waist.

xl flylow fits me perfectly for room to layer, and a slightly relaxed, but not overly baggy fit.

at your height, i would suggest the flylow large jacket.

6' 3" 190 pounds 34" waist 44" chest long legs and arms. Large fits me with more then enough room. Large in Quantum will fit you but may be long in the sleeves. For pants you are in between sizes. I wear Large in all their pants except a XL in Stash. The Stash runs a hair narrower and I need the length. FWIW a large Higgens might be to tight for you.

Specifically, all the Arc'Teryx stuff is bomber. All the FlyLow jackets but the Higgins is also super bomber, same with all the Trew Great jackets. Patagonia Powder Bowl non-insulated is also a very tough material; the Snow Shot less so, same with their other offerings.

Does it get too baggy when you go bigger, or is it just a bigger size?

I'm a fan of Cloudveil for their sleeve length, but I still go with an XL for my outter layer and L for inner. I'm 6' 180#. (and only a medium pants, if that matters).
    No longer stuck.
