I also don't see what avy control in a shitty continental snowpack has to do with some knobs shredding main chute with a foot of base.
I was there last year when one of the avie patrollers went for a ride off the ridge. I saw the group ski into the village looking pretty grim.
Lots of people were moaning about not being able to get to lift 4 or ski the ridge. I had no idea DoYou WannaDance was there.
The St. B gone still wrenches me.

Yeah they don't care that when the sport is 3x popular the best resort in the USA that they work at only has 1/2 of the business it used to. They had crazy skier visit numbers in the 80s and 90s before skiing became a safe space nanny state hobby.
Whats the difference between dying in a slide and a car crash on the way to the hill?
Kachina got shut down for a day 2 days before I arrived because the owner wanted to ski it with his friends and noone else.
Then they shut it down for some garbage FWT minor league event that took up 4 days. I've never seen anything more pathetic than the mens snowboard event they were worse than random dudes in the liftlines probably just had rich parents. Ladies events were uneventful and mens skiing sucked the one dude who had a sick run threw a 5 into a rock and we had to watch him get scraped off the hill and he alone delayed Kachina opening for 90 minutes. Then all these selfish competitors lined up to ride the lift after hoarding it for days.
I almost got my pass pulled for poaching it during the comp and saying I was a coach I got 4 runs in while it was off limits and they were pissed the last time I beat them onto the chair.
That is the best chairlift on the planet though. Maybe there is a tram that is better because its longer but in terms of chairs nothing touches it absolutely amazing skiing off that thing. Great snow too since its light and the wind kind of refreshes it like a zamboni regularly.
Sounds like DoYou WannaDance isn’t a good match for Taos. I’d strongly suggest you go somewhere else, after you go fuck yourself.
Of course. Thats why people are fucking pissed at those clowns on patrol making it an impossible place to visit if attempting to time a storm which is what most of us do. You can get the Denver Ikon crowd and thats it fly to vacation skiers won't come bc you will get a dump and then keep everything closed for a week.
Please tell us, does it physically hurt to be so dumb? Your home hill must be Hunter

as we get to see his epitaph hurtling towards him while he's blinded by it
WD, you in the wrong neighborhood for that kinda Stoke feller
I am not in your hurry
If your timing is right you can watch control work on the highline cam.
off your knees Louie
That's gotta be at the base area. The basins half way up the mountain must get more than that.
I have to admit, the skiing at Taos is arguably pound for pound a lot more challenging than the Vill. A part of that is the lack of a deep snowpack but it's also just steep AF everywhere.

That's something I really appreciate as well. Ski towns got really old for me years ago. I enjoy being in a more diverse and dynamic community. Skiing is cool but it just ain't everything to me any longer. If there's no snow? Great, I'll go enjoy doing other activities and often hang with people that have never even skied. I need that kind of diversity otherwise I get bored quickly.
Taos is sick. It's my favorite mountain right now, I just wish I could spend a month or two skiing there in the winter, hopefully before I pass on I can make that happen.

^ after weekly rain to the summits in EC in '16, I said ok. Fuck this. Been skiing west ever since. My only base criteria is snow on the ground in winter not soil.
Went to Taos this fall for our last pre-kid get away. Ate great food, ran cool trails, saw lots of good art, stumbled on live music. Kicking myself for having never skied down there despite 10 years of living on the front range. Cool fucking town and not just a ski brah town.
Is there any reasonably affordable way for a non IKONer to ski a few days around there without paying full rates? Perhaps swapping comps to my hill?
Yeah, I went right from the Village to TSV. I've probably said this too many times and probably in this thread, but it is two different beasts. TSV was primarily a slalom ski hill vs gs at the village. TSV has so many hidden lines that takes a nose and desire to find. Sharky af which added another element...straightling skilz [emoji16] Both great places, but very different. Although to your other point, the town and vibe of Taos doesn't compare...anymore. Village along with every other great hill town has been blown up by kooks. No airport has saved Taos.
