Heading down there next weekend for the kiddo's big mountain comp. What can I expect after a week of mid-30s weather and a subsequent cooldown? Should I be bracing for bulletproof, or can the chalk on that north facing terrain hold up to the heat?

50/50, will likely be very aspect dependent. At least most of that is high enough on the mtn.

Pleasant warm and sunny on the hill. Feels like 50+ deg out but snow is still cold on most aspects.

Thanks to Benny and Skared for the lowdown on my 1st trip to Taos. Stayed at La Fonda 3 nights walked to dinner at Doc's and the Taproom. There was some music at the Taos Inn. Saturday was awesome. Kachina opened and though cut up by hikers the day before was great. Found some pow in the trees. My girlfriend charged West Ridge chutes where I was a bit intimidated at times by the drop in's. I think it's the friendliest resort ever! On Monday there were power grid issues and some lifts didn't run but we had to head home at 1 so all good. Some aspects of West Ridge were slushed because it was so warm. The Big Comp might get interesting.

How do I get a care package of the Rellonos?
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

They are really easy to make. Here is a good reference. The key is separating the eggs for the batter.

Just watch it on Youtube. She also has a ton of other really good authentic takes on most classical Mexican dishes.

It did not suck. Kachina Peak hasn’t been opened during this storm, even to hikers. It was snowing lightly all afternoon.

Nice recipe and execution, but since I live in NM I use green chiles instead of Poblanos.

Are they just super gun-shy on Kachina now or low staffing maybe?

They have to give it some time to let the spirits build back up.

Gun shy. And there’s not a lot of pressure to open it after a storm.

As there should be or shouldn't be I guess. After skiing Taos and looking around at the terrain and knowing a little about their snowpack there I was so damn impressed with the ski patrol there. That's a top notch class act they have going on there dealing with that terrain and touchy pack. They are some serious pros that should be respected world wide.

In 2018/2019 - the year of the two Kachina Peak fatalities - saw a huge number of assholes being really pushy, yelling and pushing to open avy terrain after storms. Haven’t seen that since then.

Yeah, good guys. I still know a few of them. Patrol shack up top has picnic tables for the guys and couches for the dogs. Classic.

TSV proposes major upgrades, including replacing Lifts 2 & 8 and a gondola from the base up to the area of the Bavarian.

We were there for Texas spring break this year and I couldn't believe how slow chair 2 was moving. Ridiculous. I don't remember it being that slow. I read they slow it down for Texas. Made lapping that chair painful. Thankfully we mostly just lapped the Kachina Skytrac, which seems to be running great.

I wish they would run the proposed Gondi to the top of Chair 7, angle station to the bottom of chair 4.

Would give another way to lap the Chair 4/7 area, and another way to get people out of the base area and up skiing in the morning.
