SKi mag lists 15 best boot fitters in the country...WTF...No Larry...?

Ski mag listed the 15 best boot fitters in the country...
I am sure they are all very good at what they do...
    But WTF..Larry is not mentioned...
Any time I have had any boot problem...Larry has corrected it..99% of the time with only 1 visit...

Yeah fuck those magazines and websites. Shit when i start reading reviews for gear that is not solid, but the review gives it the tripple A+ bullshit rating I know somethings up.

TGR is only reputable source, even then found some bullshit posts by RAMP skis today. What a joke of a company.

I was talking to someone that worked at one a ski magazine, and they said that the reviews might be just a wee little biased for some comapnies based on how much schwag the company gives them, or in this case how much free boot fitting each fitter does for the magazine.

Nice to see PJ Dewey on there. He did an A+ job on my Dobermanns a few years ago.

Listen Larry is one of the best, but how many other of Mag's "best favoritist" are not on there either. I mean its a mainstream ski mag, listing only 15 boot fitters, I wouldn't be concerned who was left off and who on, in fact, I wouldn't read to much into it whatsoever. Kudos for those who made it, but there are more than 15 amazing boot fitters and probably at the high end, they all have something that makes them better or worse than the next.
Do I detect a lot of anger flowing around this place? Kind of like a pubescent volatility, some angst, a lot of I'm-sixteen-and-angry-at-my-father syndrome?

    fuck that noise.

Do agree it is unbelievable to leave Larry off......I was happy to see Jim Shaeffner though. Those are the 2 guys I think are the best.

Has anyone in Reno Tahoe worked with this guy? Never heard of him....

It's not a bad list all and all... I'm sure there are ones missing.

Greg Hoffmann (Vail), Jim Schaffner (Truckee) and Nick Blaylock (Mt Snow) are all fitters I've worked with- all three are head and shoulders above everyone else I've been to and are well worth the trip. I've also heard that Bill Haight at Stratton is very good... but I stopped going there after Greg Hoffmann left for Vail.

    Confirmed!
Also, his location is immediately adjacent to the ski area. So get some boot tweaks done, and walk right over to the lifts to test it out.
(Okay, so Stratton doesn't have all that much in the way of challenging terrain, and the ticket prices are very spendy, but still, being able to walk back and forth from skiing to boot fitting is a big plus. This past season, after having some footbeds made for my TLT5, I just walked from the shop then started skinning up to test them.)

That way you can re-sell their fartbag.

    gregL,

Do you know of good reputable boot fitters in Seattle or the Eastside?

People I've had direct experience with and trust (Jim Mates is my go-to guy now):

Jim Mates (206) 297-9298 (Ballard area)
Kelly Timmons (206) 547-7879 (Wallingford area)
Martin Rand (360) 663-3043 (Crystal Mountain)

Edit to add: Keep in mind that successful boot fitting is a dialog between skier and fitter, and the skier bears responsibility for recognizing and describing what hurts and where, as well as knowing their own ski style well enough to suspect when a boot is hampering their skiing.

There are lots of people who can make almost any boot comfortable for the vast majority of skiers, but the guys above typically go beyond that and will make suggestions re: mods that may make it possible to take your skiing up a notch or resolve long-standing problems. These are also all independent "fitting" operations, not shops (Martin is in the Crystal Demo Shop), so their expertise is not included in the price of buying new boots.

I did about 6-7 years ago. Wasn't impressed with the consultation and alignment talk, but I do know people who are happy with his service. YMMV.

Seems like they did get the right representative from the Denver Metro area on the list. Lee Kenney is the bomb. He has worked on my boots for 15 years, great work. I have not had to go to him in a while since my boots have been dialed in for some time.

Also a big fan of Chuck Bird, just not sure if he is still doing boot work anywhere now.

I have worked and skied with him. Yeah, he is good and knows his shit. Snowhot/Trekchick is working for him this winter. I will say, don't judge Snowind for what it is but more what Bud does. Snowind is a small shop on the first floor of the Grand Sierra Hotel. In the summer, sunscreen and in the winter, rentals are main money makers so Bud can concentrate on the boot fitting.
