Food science mags, why does apple juice have more vitamin C than apple cider?

Work cafeteria has local cider again, just grabbed a bottle for breakfast. Noticed a 16oz bottle (2 servings) only has 12% of my daily vitamin c content. a 16oz bottle of the Dole crap apple juice has IIRC over 100%.

What is it about pissy tasting juice that gives it more C than the nectar of the gods known as cider?

Dr. Oz was on the Today show today saying that the imported apples used in AJ may actually contain traces of arsenic due to the lack of regulations on its use as a pesticide in some of the countries from which we import them. Apparently, the FDA is giving him a hard time about his statements...

Arsenic is naturally occurring the seeds of apples. I think the problem with his study is that he measured total arsenic and didn't differentiate between organic and inorganic... There always is going to be some amount of the compound in your juice

No, it isn't. They contain a cyanide precursor (as do the seeds of many common fruits), but you would have to eat a shitload of ground apple seeds in order to actually poison yourself.

The cyanide thing is completely different; very low amounts of arsenic are found in soil and groundwater - and end up in seeds (maybe actually the whole fruit; not sure on that). Some of it is a result of pesticides that used to commonly use organic arsenic compounds and some is naturally occurring. I don't think you could ever easily guarantee an arsenic free juice.
