When I was a kid, a bullet came through our window (middle of the city). Based on the angle, it could have easily come from over a half mile away (wrong side of the tracks) but who knows. It didn't have a ton of speed left when it hit.

These are some awesome gun stories. I had no idea this was a (somewhat) common occurrence.

About a year ago I was smoothing the sand for a moisture barrier under a foundation. All of a sudden the sand blew up in my face and a mushroomed bullet was sitting about 8 inches away from my shoulder. Figured it was some fuckwad shooting up into the air. Scared the shit out of me once I realized what happened.

I think I might still have that bullet too

I came out the next morning and found the gleaming bullet just lying there.

I went up to his place and asked if he'd been shooting the night before; "Yeah, I was cleaning my pistol."
"I think you left this in my garage," I said while holding up the bullet. His face went completely ashen as his stupidity slowly dawned on him. He ended up paying for a new door; the Tundra dent I let go.

That bullet narrowly missed my bedroom and back porch, where my dogs were chillin'. Stupid fucker.
A normal garage door wouldnt slow a bullet down very much, and a tundra's tailgait is easily pierced by just about any caliber. Logical conclusion is that he picked his firing direction well, but did not make sure the ground was soft and rockless there. What I'm saying is that if he shot straight at your garage it would have gone straight through the door and the tundra, tailgait, and cab. It must have hit somewhere else first and ricocheted.

That was his claim. But the bullet has not dent in it, hardly a scratch - it made a rough hole through the double-aluminum door and a small dent in the tailgate, then made a clear dent in the plywood. If it hit a rock at full speed, it would be at least slightly mis-shapen - but it's not. I kept the bullet, and I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

Got shot with a nailgun from about 5 feet away on the exact tip of my nose from a dumbass carpenter who missed the stud putting up sheathing, still have the scar.

Been shot at with BB's and rocks and acorns and bottle rockets and skyrockets a ton, we used to war with them, but only got shot at with a bullet once, but it was on purpose and he didn't miss by much.

We had a shootin' car on our farm growing up. During my last visit I was dismayed to see that my uncle had it removed. So next visit I gotta steal a newspaper box or Pepsi machine to replace it. Although shooting at jibbers seems intriguing... much more interactive and reactive.

My buddy Tony got the nickname "Fingerless Tony" when he reached down to pull a blade of grass out of the end of his shot-gun after crossing a fence. Blew his pointer finger clean off at the the big knuckle.

Yea, I'm not saying he wasnt negligent. Making sure your backstop is free of ricochet causing material is part of being safe, but there is no freaking way any center fire caliber would be slowed down enough by just your garage door to not penetrate your truck's tail gait, it ricocheted of something.

Used to be drug dealers in a rental house across the street. Some shit went bad there one night and a gunfight erupted on their front porch. I found a bullet hole clean through my garage the next day. At least the fuckers were out of there after that, the landowner sold the house, and the neighborhood has been nice and peaceful since.
