Why do the windows on the bridge of a ship slant backwards?

Another serious question. I've always wondered this. Why do they slant backwards/inwards at the bottom instead of vertical or slanted like the windshield of a car? I imagine the slant has to do with water dispersion or maybe vision but why different than car style or vertical? Anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Reflections of the person looking out? Or reflection of the sun or water?

I've understood that the forward leaning windshield creates an airpocket that minimize rain/water splashing up... Similar to the special turbulence created on pickup trucks!
