I have water in my ear and I can't get it out

Big 4th weekend and a lakehouse, somehow, despite all the swimming and diving I've done in the previous 25 years without any "ear troubles" I've had water in my right ear for the past 6 days. Tried EVERY remedy I could find, and I'm pretty damned good at google....any ideas? No pain or pressure really, I was hoping a tram ride up 4000 feet today would force it out but no dice...this sucks!

Ear wax. Hydrogen peroxide/warm water, equal parts, blasted into your ear with something resembling a pint-sized turkey baster while your on your side will likely blow it out. Might take like a quart.
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.

Go to the drug store and get some swimmers ear. A couple of drops and it'll be gone in the AM. Used to it from kayaking.

the swimmers drops are just rubbing alcohol; the most popular method I could research was 50/50 alcohol and vinegar. I used about half a bottle of that earwax removal stuff, then blasted the mixture in with some force over and over and over. Nada

I went thru similar self-help attempts a few months ago, ended up resigning myself to the emergacare by whole grocer. They did what I wrote above, for only a couple hundred bucks.

Edit: they also presoaked for 15 minutes w me laying on my side.

had that once, god it hurt. Used the drug store ear wax cleaner thing with the drops and the bulb to rinse out. It worked, and took out a huge disgusting chunk of wax, but had to do it twice over two days to finally get relief.

    good luck.

Just finished a WFR course last week and they recommend rubbing alcohol for water in the ear.

Light a cigarette and stick the filter side in your ear.

A few drops of warm olive oil in your ear then some cotton. Leave it in for a couple of hours then flush with a bulb syringe and warm water. Or go to your MD and pay a lot form the same thing. As has been said it is not just water, but ear wax.

I have to do the above every few years. I have gotten enough ear wax out to make a lovely set of scented candles.

Bounce on the opposite foot of the ear that has water in it, I used to swear by this playing water polo. If the states had universal health care, you could go talk to the doc if it's really bad.

There's a chance that you've got wax buildup as well. I had a similar thing from snorkel diving in Hawaii a few years back. Got so bad I went completely deaf in one ear.

    1. Doc took 2 gel tablets of laxitives - cut them open and dripped it into my ears. Basically it softens up the wax the same as stool.

    2. Laid on my side for 30 minutes with cotton in.

    3. 5 ounce plastic syringe with 50/50 warm water & hydrogen peroxide.

Flushed my ear about 10-12 times and finally all kinds of nasty dark wax came out. I finally could hear and the "water sloshing" sound was gone. That kind of relief is phenomenal.

Whatever you do don't use a six ounce syringe.

I perforated my ear drum a few times in my youth from water skiing. I'm in and out of the water everyday and as I've gotten older, I've become more prone to ear infections.
A few drops of 50% alcohol and 50% vinegar in each ear after getting out really helps prevent them and the symptoms your describing.

Once you get one, antibiotic drops with cortisone will get rid of them in a few days.

NEVER use a six ounce syringe. 5.2 ounces is the absolute top end before SHIT GETS CRAAAAAAZY.

Holy shit, I forgot about this until you said it. I also bong on my head while doing the bounce on one foot and it works. You have swimmers ear. It's water trapped behind wax. You can also try real warm water blasting out of a removable shower head that will blast it out, maybe after soaking it with one of the many things recommended above. I have had ear issues for the past 20 years since having the eardrum rebuilt in one ear twice. My ENT suggests doing the shower head thing every time you bathe in order to prevent the buildup you have. In Hawaii, a lot of surfers rinse their ears with hydrogen peroxide after they get out of the water to prevent it.

Fuckin got it! Almost a whole bottle of the earwax dissolver and repeated blasting with as hot of water as I could take; thanks for the encouragement, so glad I didn't waste money on the doc! So much nasty wax in there...
