    How to protect Carbon Downtube?

I got teh hotness sitting in my garage. New Giant XTC Composite 29er.

I've seen skid plates and 3m type tape on other carbon frames, this one has nothing.
Anybody have any good, easily obtained, solutions to protect the downtube from thrown up rocks? Ideally it wouldn't be too heavy or do any damage if/when the next owner wants to remove it.

    Thanks!

p.s. pics to follow once i've swapped out some parts and such...

Someone mentioned something called "race tape" to me once. It's clear, and you put it on your downtube and chainstays, etc. I think it's pretty expensive and maybe it's the same thing as previously mentioned.
Some kind of rubber strip would probably be best for the downtube, unless you somehow never see rocks.
    No longer stuck.

    hmmm

Let me talk to some people @ work tomorrow, I have some ideas, just need to see if they would be interested in making the product.

We make some pretty cool shit out of composites.

Bagtagley wrapped my Highline in this stuff before I bought it. If I buy another bike again it will get the same treatment. It's thick and durable. It's not a skid plate by any means but definitely protects the paint from anything.

umm ride it. If that shit is damaged from rocks it shouldn't have been there.

    kevlar skid plate.

Talked to the other engineers at work, and its not something we would be interested in making. It would be custom for every downtube, and cost more $$ then most would pay.

Would offer some extreme durability though....

Ask for it at your local shop. Impressive impact performance video on their site, too.

That's bullshit engineers talking, make it yourself. Its easy. Go to an FRP supplier and get what you need.

Ibis has one for their frames. Looked at my friend's on his HD, and it looks like one of the holes might match up with my enduro's frame.

I never said it wasn't easy. I said that we decided that offering it as a product didn't make sense, as it isn't a one size fits all object and to design a tool for every downtube variation would cost too much $$ for the average rider to bother.

This was 3 engineers that know a thing or two about composites btw....
