I dated a "recovering alcoholic" (I quote this because she never hit bottom but her dad was a RAGING drunk and she realized that she had no control, stopping before it got out of hand) and it wasn't bad at all. She didn't care if I partied (though I quit drinking momentarily while she got her sober bearings) and I assure you, the sex did not suffer at all....might have gotten better because we never passed out pre-rogering.

For me it all boils down to a girls reasoning behind it. If a girl simply doesn't care for alcohol, then there's not really much of a problem. It is nice to always have a DD. If, however, she doesn't drink because her dad/ex-bf/ex-husband/etc. was a raging abusive alcoholic, or if she is an alcoholic herself, then she WILL eventually have a problem with YOU drinking. She may act cool at first, and say she doesn't mind, but she will definitely give you crap for it at some point in the near future.

I tried it in college. Didn't work out. It was his general personality of not being able to let himself lose a little control and relax/have fun. It started off well, but his control issues came out more and more. Thankfully I didn't let him pull any shit on me, but saw that it was very strong in other aspects of his life. So, her being a closet control "freak" is something you might keep in the back of your mind.

Additionally, it's seems suspicious to me that she just doesn't drink without a specific reason. I mean it could be as simple as staying healthier, doesn't like the taste of alcohol, absolutely hates hangovers, etc. But there's always a reason behind someone not liking something...as small as it may be.

But if she's still able to let loose/have fun and you dig all the other parts of her personality, then I say go for it. The all time DD is clutch.

I've had a few friends who at one point or another were totally booze free, usually they were straight edge, some just didn't like to drink.

Of those who totally abstained from alcohol, all, but one gave it up and started drinking at least a little bit. The one who stuck with no alcohol is now in jail for banging 12 year olds. Yeah, everyone has a vice. The trick is having one thats not disgusting, illegal and unhealthy.


FWIW, I think you should go for it. Whats the worst that can happen? A non-drinker is way better than a lush, but IMHO healthy moderation (a beer here and there) is probably the safest choice.
