Spoons.
This morning while doing barn chores I popped a random CD I had burned who knows when into my old portable player for a little distraction. First three songs were:
Needle and the Spoon by Lynyrd Skynyrd
She Came in Through the Bathroom Window by Joe Cocker
Witchy Woman by The Eagles
While listening to them I noticed each song spoke of spoons. A weird thing to sing about in the first place but even stranger is the fact the spoon in each song represented something different.
Needle and the Spoon - drug addiction
It was the needle and the spoon
And a trip to the moon
Took me away, took me away
She Came in Through the Bathroom Window - affluence
She came in through the bathroom window
Protected by a silver spoon
But now she sucks her thumb and wanders
By the banks of her own lagoon
Witchy Woman - witchcraft
She held me spellbound in the night
Dancing shadows and firelight
Crazy laughter in another room
And she drove herself to madness with a silver spoon
Then I started thinking about all the other incidents of spoon references in life of which there are many. How random that a simple utensil has so many evocations.

In Churchill, Canada, it is common for people to leave their cars unlocked so that others have somewhere to escape in case they encounter a polar bear

That makes no sense. There aren't any polar bears in SF but people don't lock their cars.
