I'm not a surfer, but I like to cruise the TGR surf thread from time to time, so forgive me if i sound ignant. THAT LOOKS AMAZING. looks to be a unique phenomenon, no? A big river mouth like that doesn't get waves usually right?

this is a phenomenon called a tidal bore, a large tidal push upriver. rivermouths actually can have great surf, but they are created by "traditional" ocean swell hitting the banks that are deposited by the river outflow.

That wave has me losing sleep. I can't stop thinking about it. Apparently those rows of barrels are created by the refraction waves coming off the banks. I wonder how often that wave actually occurs in that way. It seems like it would be highly dependent on tides, outflows, even maybe shifting bottom topography? Insane. I want to know more...

^^^ Promo video and stuff I've read said it's occurs at this spot every 19 years.

good news is you now have plenty of time to plan and save money for the trip.
