Saw the premier in Boston via free tix from WBCN. While in the bathroom, the dj, Mark Parenteau asked me if I wanted to get high with somebody famous... I said, "Sure, where is he?" Turns out he ended up in jail for some lewd shit with boys. My creepy encounter instincts were good. So was the movie. Still classic, but not showing my daughter till she's 21.

I think a good 60% of the decisions I made in my early twenties were based on this movie (sad - I know).

Took my wife to the 25th yr anniversary party for HD @ Squaw a few yrs back, with special guest appearances from the actor who played Squirrel Murphy and Shannon Tweed's skiing stunt-double.

Within about 30 mins of the beginning of the complementary film screening, she decided it was the worst movie she had ever seen and dragged us out of there due to her boredom. Probably the biggest fight we have ever been in resulted.

I still say that line to this date. It was this movie that peaked my interest in Skiing.

Don't you now refer to it as Acroski ?
Skiing is a dance, and the mountain always leads ? Is this why you still do it ?

Sure the soft porno in the hot tub was something you shouldn't have watched until you were ten !

such a sweet find I haven't seen this since I was a kid and went to my friend's house that was from "the other side of the tracks" according to my mom... He probably was a bad influence on my pre-teen self.

It was mid-February 1983 — exactly 40 years ago — when our coach Kevin told us that he was contacted by a film production crew that was going to be filming a movie at the resort revolving around freestyle skiing. They were looking for some freestyle skiers to be stunt doubles and possibly to act. They were calling it Hot Dog.

Great read and so cool to learn more background. I took a timid Mormon girl on a first date to that movie. Didn’t have a car so borrowed a buddies boat of a Mercury. It was like -15F and the drivers side door wouldn’t open and passenger window was stuck halfway down. After the movie at her apartment I totally methane bombed her bathroom after bean burritos earlier that day and embarrassingly cut out early.

The date was a disaster but the movie rocked, ha.

    This should be fun...

With the 40th Reunion scheduled for April 2024, I plan on being there and embracing the moment. I was involved with something special in my ski career. So, to quote Dan O'Callahan, until next April, "You can kiss my ass. Not on this side. Not on that side. But right in ze mittle!"

If you enjoyed that article you might find this interesting as well. Legasa covers some of the same material, and gets into other interesting stuff.

Lol no methane bombing but I took out a gorgeous girl on a first date. I later learned she was more into makeup and expensive clothing than any physical activity and we didn’t have much in common.

Our next date she suggested we do a movie with “Less Sex” She chose some wildlife documentary and half an hour in two wolves were mating. I just looked over and laughed.

I get to ski with Lynne Wieland once in a while. She still rips and I can barely keep up, plus she is a really good person.
