    So What do I do?

    I've been laid off "your position has been eliminated due to a company wide restructuring up to the executive level"

    I'm employed until January 7th to transition my work. I'm already on vacation for all but 4 work days until now and then. Is their any point in showing up sober (assuming I don't reek of booze). My coworkers like and respect me - my boss, who isn't respected in the industry, didn't. 'em?

    eh, it's not really burning the bridge, because I doubt they'll be there. Like I said, the people who'd matter professionally respect me and my abilities. It's more the bizarre feeling of being laid off, but sugarcoated like when you give notice.

    Err, spend 4 days writing resumes and cover letters, have your co-workers proof read them, over shots of tequilas at lunch.. what else.

    then live on funemployment ski a lot get around to looking for a job about mid spring..

    dude screw your boss, just ignore him. You really do not want to piss off your current employers, no matter how much they suck.

    We've had lots of "rightsizing" (read ) in our company. Found out one dude (he was an amazing hacker when he wasn't fixing our network) skimmed .0001 off every dollar going into the bank. Em...they didn't catch it til he was way into the millions. He mebbe never would have gotten caught but he sent them a "fuck you" post card from Europe!

    No seriously though, about the bridge torching. Even if your boss doesn't like you, there's no reason to give him material justification for it. Hell maybe he'll forget he hated you just in time to serve as a reference for something.

    in my experience the bridge burning can be done with reckless abandon.

    Some HR peeps have told me that it is OK to ask the former employer if they would hire said applicant again. This seems to be the only question they can answer outside of whether or not you actually worked there.

    Industry standard, lwhat I give and am given by others, dates of employment, pay rate and are they eligible for rehire.

    so just dont do anything too crazy & you will be fine
