Sugar pow above 2000 in verb today. Lot of people, but some secret gardens are still untracked.
We were in Engelberg today.
About 30 cm of fresh, which skied quite nice when found in the wind protected areas. Some other places (for example upper part of glacier) were quite variable though, with dunes up to 1 m high next to nothing.
Not the best pics, but here are some.
Danski dropping into Jochstock area.
The snowpack was extremely tender. We had numerous releases today.... so you had to choose your line wisely, when you were off the beaten track. Tom contemplating the lines.
Mostly just the upper small layer, however on the wind loaded parts there could be some considerable slabs. For example this remote release we set off.
But even when played safely some quality pow turns could be had.

Looks like the 200cm rule is in effect...
On Thursday morning a warm front will pass first, rapidly succeeded by a cold front. Under stormy winds from a north-westerly direction the warmer air will be pushed violently into the Alps, forcing it to snow out completely. We are looking at 50-90cm of fresh in the Isere, the northern parts of the Savoie, the Haute Savoie and pretty much everything due north of the Main Alpine Ridge between Thursday and Friday-morning!
On Thursday, snowfall will be heaviest in the north-western parts of the Alps (be there on Thursday morning!), after which the storm will move towards the east on Thursday-night, bringing snow deep into the valleys. Then on Friday the Nordstau continues in the east, delivering most freshies between the Swiss Flumserberg and the Austrian Tauplitz. By the time, it’ll start clearing up in the west, before also clearing up in the east on Friday-night. In total, we are looking at 50-90cm, up to 120cm locally between Thursday and Saturday morning. Due to the stormy wind, massive snow accumulations could arise, so be careful and ride safe. Please make sure you are aware of the local avalanche conditions!
Saturday starts out as a bluebird day in the Alps, but during the afternoon, a new front will arive, making the snow line rise towards 1200m in the west and 700 in the east. As of then, the Nordstau will be on until at least Monday (and according to some models, even Wednesday and beyond)! This means another 50-100cm of fresh between Flumserberg and Tauplitz, leaving us with a massive 200cm of fresh in only 7 days... We are talking record-breaking stuff!
