A nice family ski vacation in the Valais comes to an end.
Managed to get away for a few solo tours.
Spring like conditions, not many fresh pow turns, but you can still have a good time, when you take what you can.
And yeah... about the wine and cheese I don't have to tell you about.

Short ski tour near the simplon pass. Here the south faces are almost bare.... and even the north faces wind battered.
The conditions are a lot better in the south western part of the Valais.

Nice views. The 5 cm overnight smoothed out a few things. But obviously more fresh would be a lot better.

Corn season started early (south-east face at 2300m).
Pic does not look so good, but actually was a smooth ride.

Some Model runs are quite encouraging.

What’s it like skiing in Lyngen Alps in Norway end of March. Is there - generally speaking - fresh snow? Is the snow light or heavy? Any info would be appreciated.

March in lyngen is still fairly cold. I mean you're at the artic circle.

On Euro forecasts: Well the Main Models operational runs seem to set the trough further east after msrch 6. So it gets colder but no snow and then we stay under high pressure.

The Ensembles still see other possibilities.

Piemont dump is pretty much Set.

You had a base? I was kind of surprised by the 40+ in the prealps of vorarlberg. But in my prealps hunting grounds was no base left.

Very limited terrain wise! But I’m always amazed by how little snow one needs here on certain pitches.

    Piemont is going off.
And it will snow until thursday with another 50-80cn possible.

Next week from the 8th onwards offers possiblities in the West. Still very dynamic in the models.

That is really a lot more than I expected. Should have issued an alert.

It’s so hard to know if something is gonna happen in this valley. Most times they say it’s on and we get nothing.

This time was a north eastern flow. Which is rare and falls in unexpected places

Further to subtle's reply, I skied Lofoten second week in April a half dozen years back and it was awesome. Skinned from/to the car every run. Powder and corn (with a little super firm when we mis-timed one run...).

I wouldn't bet my Socks on it yet. The Ensembles are 50:50 at best. And Some of them have precip but rain to 2000m.

Than I have a proper forecast now: little prep and rain above 2000 m.
All we have to do is to follow the worst case scenario 🤣

Im not trying to be Debbie Downer but I don’t see it happening. Wish it would, we need the moisture or it is either gonna be a long, dry summer or it’s gonna piss rain the whole time.
