In Tirol they changes this year to what they call "dynamic pricing". basically its a pre-paid model. in other words: they made the normal short term buys 20-30% more expnsive within a year. so, yes. makes sense if you want to ski anyway. if you are a "i only ski when its sunny", then buy short term.

Also did lots of cool lines in the resort too that weren't necessarily to obvious. Highlight of the lines there for me though was probably Banane couloir, it's pretty obvious from the chair. Not quite as obvious looking down from the top though🤣
I've spent loads of time in the EK. The amount of easy access terrain as you've found out is immense. You'll have only touched a drop of it in a few days. We're you sleeping in Val or Tignes?

Oh, I know. Definitely want to come back some time! Lots more to do. Plus lines that weren't in this year with lack of snow. We were sleeping in Val Claret.

We had about minus 13 at the start and Minus 17 or 18 at the top. In the Shade 4 hours. And wind at the skin change. Fun times.

I'm pretty careful with avie danger. Study the weather and always check my predictions with digging 2-3 pits on the way up

Anyone been in la Grave recently? Wondering how conditions are, what the base is like and what sort of lines are skiable right now. Debating on if it's worth going there. Really want to ski there, but if the conditions are shit right now... Getting a guide stretches our budget quite a bit too and if only the "normal" lines are in, we might not want to spend it on that. 🤷♀️

    Just go.
You can have a great time without a guide just skiing the Vallon variations and figuring out the Chancel lines. It's a unique place.

Cheapest guided options may be to hook up with Pelle Lang's Skiers Lodge operation.

Yeah, pretty confident in my ability to do the "normal" stuff without a guide. Just having trouble finding out just how much snow there is down there and if there is even enough base for the normal lines. Guess there is only 1 way to find out...

The last link shows 50 cm in the last 8 days, so that's good. The only potential downer would be wind. But it is still such a cool tiny town. Plus, it's easy to go over to Monetier Les Bains ( http://www.hotel-europe-monetier.com/ ) and rip around Serre Che for a day (Yret) and then over to Montgenevre/Claviere .

It feels like just about all of the French, Swiss and Austrian mountains are inter-linked now. Even if you need a short train/bus or taxi ride to connect with an uphill people moving contraption.

Cool, thanks! What link did you use? I was having trouble finding a snow report for there online.

And yes, Serre Chevalier and Montgenevre are already in the plans too!

Baqueira is pretty covered right now and more on the way. I hope for a decent February because I've never been in the pyrenees and my holidays are mid Feb.

Last storm finally brought some decent skiing through Tirol again. Base started like early December - ie. non-existent:

The following day a bit more snow...

Aaaand on the third day it went blue

Storm totalled around 50cm (at least locally, definitely less in other spots). Base is still more like early Dec than the end of Jan (this has been the worst season for snowfall since I first started spending winters here in 2008; though as may son was born in December I've had more important things to do anyway!), but actually that kinda just made it funner to ski

Even less base on the sunny side though

Couple of cm overnight and some wind to buff things out made for a nice little reset for Meribel today. Enjoyed our days there for sure! Now in Bourg d'oisans for a bit to hit la Grave, Alpe d'Huez and les 2 Alpes. If anyone is around and wants to make some turns, especially at La Grave, let me know!

Oh well there goes the precip in the Models for next week because flow changed from nw to west and is north of the alps.

and after that looks rather dry and warm as a trend.

If we don't get a base before mid February we can write the season of below 2000m.
