When I mentioned the wind, it wasn't snowing, it was transporting.
When it started snowing, there was no/little wind.

BTW, it's snowing, and there is no wind in the village.

As for interesting conditions, yesterday was nice. Avi4, due to winds from the North.
Now, I am not a pro, and I would not normally question the SLF, but,
winds all day Tuesday were from the W/SW, direct from PDS. And snow was transporting.
When the snow started falling in the evening, I cannot say where from the winds came.
But, the cornices were formed as if from the W (I might even say W/NW). Just saying.

174kph in the berner oberland. 146kph at la dole on lake geneva.
should make for some interesting avy conditions out there.

    it's also snowing in lausanne....still.

    Grenoble bound tomorrow

Oh wizened eurogurus, I've got a dilemma on my hands. A friend of the family is putting us up for a week or so at his place downtown Grenoble. He's a skiing n00b (first season ever - has about 5 days under his belt), but wants to get out with me nonetheless. I figure we'll ski together 50% of each day and I ditch him and find some hike to with my daughter for the rest. Any suggestions on where we can find a fair bit of green-blue terrain with relatively easy access sidecountry gnar? How's Les Sept Laux for that kind of plan?

I know the simple answer is to leave my wife, tell my buddy that there are no friends on powder days and find a guide out at Tignes for a full week, but that's not happening this time around. This time.

    Thanks

I was at La Dole yesterday afternoon during the break in the weather. The top (offpiste) was frozen solid, lasting evidence of 150kph winds from earlier in the week. Lower down was nice, but only about 15cm of fresh. Having said that, the base layer is pretty phenominal for this altitude.

Its snowing hard now in Arzier (800m); I'd guess about 20cms has fallen since dawn.

Skied Val d'isere near le fornet/laisenant today. Wind fucked everything above about 2200m. Below treeline is good, but relatively skied out because there has been no vis for like a week. It's snowing moderately now with little wind. If we do get some vis, I suspect everything in the alpine will be decent except the obvious wind scoured areas. I skied the Looker's left of the Face yesterday; the downhill run in the World champs yesterday during a window and found amazing smooth pow top to bottom. I would estimate the storm total be around 60-70cm but it's hard to tell because of the fucking 100mph winds we had.

Go to Vaujany (35mins or so from Grenoble by car and easy bus access). Get on the Montfrais and Vallonet chairlifts. Plenty of easy pistes, a couple of decent mountain restaurants, no queues, a cheapish local pass and plenty of fun, easy to access and relatively safe off-piste options that all meet back at the groomer. If you can see it from the chairs, you can ski it.

Tirol is that funny place you go to listen to oompah music, drink gluhwein and dance in your skiboots with Brits in bad knitwear, nein?

Really massive dump in Pyrenées yesterday, by now the snowreports are just updating

    France:
    Cauterets: 300-500cm finally updates
Piau Engaly: 375cm-480cm!!! Accumulated in 7 days up to 250cm , with 180cm of fresh in 24 hours

    Gourette 190-450cm
    St Lary: 250-300cm

    Spain
    Baqueira Beret: 235-365cm
Tavascan: 200-350 (higher slope only at 2200m)
    Boi Taull: 220-350cm

At this moment more than 70% of the resorts are closed due to extreme avalanche danger

    Cauterets at 9/2

    Cauterets today;
