Stoked on a surprise powder day. Headed across the tunnel to Courmeyer. Sunny there so head up the Funivie Monte Bianco to ski the Toula Glaciar.

    MISTAKE!

It's been several years since I skied snow that horrible. "Windfucked" is a massive understatement for the conditions we endured today.

You win some you loose some I suppose. Give me some ideas for tomorrow. I'm sure some people found some good stuff today...?

Skied Cosmiques today. Skied in no Rapel, just a little scrambling. Ankle to waist deep up high with very firm underneath. Mid calf on the lower section. Skied down to the old mid station in the trees.

    Waiting for the seccond bin

    The lower section

will post some pics after tomorrow and friday,

But damn, by looking at the posts it seems like here in Western CH we got a good main brunt of the storm(Accept for Austria sounds like they got nuked on). I mean if Leysin is this good, the higher resorts around here must be epic, or maybe I just got lucky and yesterday was awesome. who knows

For BBirtle, Idris, Verbier and other locals: How packed does Verbier/Chamonix gets during Easter?

Is it worth it to get into plane to get there or is it going to be endless queues to get up mountain?

Tony, I can't speak for Cham' but you will not have queue problems at Verb for Easter. Even the key link/pinch points will be fine. Easter is late, season has had a lot of negative press for snow...
I'll buy the drinks if queues are a problem.

Cham can have problems with its access lifts, but once your up theres rearlt a problem. if you turn un before the lifts turn your golden. 15 min after startup you are looking at a long wait.

engelberg didn`t get as much as the freak stations a bit northeast (1,3m!!!), but 80cm blower and bluebird made for a fun day. and still i destroyed my big daddy.

Here is a picture from Engelberg yesterday. It turned bluebird this afternoon and the mountain is all tracked out. No sense in coming here

queues will not be a problem in verb in easter.... regarding the snow, who knows... but there's access to a lot of glacier terrain on the backside

Just got back from 2 days in st anton, from the sound of it didnt get quite as much as other places but had my best days of the season.

Yesterday there was about 20cm of fresh on top of a variable base. Today another 20-30cm. Was fucking good today, faceshots in the morning doing bachseite and jungbruntobel and then surfing the pow on rendl northface in the afternoon when it had cleared a bit.

Yo Jong (I can call you that now that I have more posts than you - hr hr),

Make sure to get them up quickly!

Also, Mademoiselle Klar has been remarkably quiet ... can we expect some pics from her?

There should not be endless queues, but that depends on where you choose to ski.
It is a busy weekend in general, but I normally find someplace without queues.

Do not expect G3 to open the first day of sun.
The first day of sun is when they control the place.
The day after the first day of sun is the day it normally opens.

Friday I am around Leysin, or G3 if it opens.
E-berg looks like a place to be. Nice pic.

    Thanks Rungsp.

I guess now I will have to buy the drinks...next season. The biggest dump of the season in the Pyrenees plus a super sweet hotel deal (5 nights/double room + half pension for €600) got me onto another direction.

Yes, talked w/ resident last night. She came down to PDS on Tuesday and got over-pow'd. She was thinking sunny skies and more warmth...got pounded in Champery. She said no new snow in SF on Mon/Tues/Weds.
4-kasts seem to indicate 15 - 20cms dusting over the next couple days.

But, Saas-Fee is so high (installations run to 3500+m) that it has its own weather.
I have woken up surprised by a 15 - 20cm dusting not predicted above Morenia.

Off-piste tightly regulated. 4 good reason!
    - But watch locals and their tracks and you can score. Best try between Egginerjoch and Felskinn. get map and observe area when going up Felskinn.
    - Hike up to pass below Allalinhorn and descend. Always sweet snow.

Morenia has best lunch for price (rapport qualite-prix) on any mtn in CH, imho.

Plattjen - very steep and great view but piste always, always shitty EC boilerplate.

It is always much, much colder than you anticipate!
Deep glacier valley keeps sun and most wind out...but cold stays in! 4 skiers/boardrs the snow stays sweet long after a storm. 4 most CH residents and tourists it is toooo cold!

I have posted plenty already re: SF.
SEARCH: this forum, titles w/ key words "Saas-Fee"

Hey thanks for all the input. I am leavin in about an hour, will post some pics when we get back.

Oh, and about another 15cm at the college here today, didnt get to go on the hill, but heard it was sex up top. Hopefully al and some others are enjoying it!

    Which resort?

I climbed this when I was there...

And next time I'm there, I'm going to ski it... plus the couloir on it's right side.

Both are easily doable (around 45 degrees at the most), if snow conditions are good.

Whenever in Andorra I go for Grandvalira.

From your links, the couloir above (it says max 55º!) seems to be in Grau Roig which is part of Grandvalira.

I don't like Vallnord. It's very friendly for beginners but very few off-piste.

Nice thing about Andorra at this time of the season is that you can pay a personal visit to the guys at Telemark-Pyrenees a few kilometres away, it's end-of-season sales time!

50 degrees at the most... Atleast when I climbed it.

And yup, Grandvalira is the better option.
